The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most recognizable franchises in all of sports. The purple and gold is iconic. The brand is global. So when you tune into a Lakers game on Spectrum SportsNet, you expect the broadcast graphics to match that level of prestige. The 2026 scorebug is fine. It works. But for a team this big, fine is not really enough.
The scorebug checks the basic boxes. The score is easy to read, the game clock and quarter are displayed clearly, and the Lakers purple and gold colors show up in the design. The layout is straightforward and does not take up too much screen space. There is nothing wrong with it from a functionality standpoint. It gives you the information you need and stays out of the way.
The problem is that there is nothing memorable about it either. When you compare the Lakers scorebug to what MSG does for the Knicks or what YES Network does for the Nets, the Spectrum SportsNet design feels generic by comparison. It does not have a strong visual identity that makes you think this is a Lakers broadcast before you even see the logo. For the biggest franchise in the biggest basketball market in the world, you would expect a scorebug with more personality and polish.
The purple and gold color scheme should be one of the easiest palettes in sports to make look great on screen. Those colors are naturally bold and distinctive. The scorebug uses them, but it does not lean into them enough to really make the design pop. A more aggressive use of the gold as an accent or a bolder treatment of the purple could elevate this from average to standout.

The Lakers Spectrum SportsNet scorebug gets a B for 2026. It is functional and inoffensive, but for a franchise of this caliber, we expected more. The broadcast graphics should match the brand, and right now they are just not there yet.
