The NBA Finals logo is coming back to center court for the 2026 NBA Finals. Real win for the league. The Finals logo had not appeared at center court since 2015, and the court logo history for the entire decade in between has been a documented absence. That is the difference. A painted "WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS" wordmark on the apron in 2021 versus a generic "NBA Playoffs" sponsor-stamp lettering in 2026. The NBA is the only major American professional sports league that does not brand its conference championship round on the playing surface. The Conference Finals courts in San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Cleveland, and New York are running the same regular season floor design they used in November.

What the NBA Used to Do

Those graphics do real work for the broadcast viewer. They do nothing for the fan sitting in the arena. They do nothing for the player walking out of the tunnel. They do nothing for the moment when the camera pans across the floor in a wide pre-tip shot.

The court is the stage. The court is what gets photographed. The court is the visual identity of the moment. The bigger fix is to extend the on-court branding to the Conference Finals starting in 2027. The work is not complicated. The league already has logos for the Eastern Conference Finals and Western Conference Finals (they appear in every broadcast graphic). Painting those logos at center court, on the basket stanchion pad, or as a sideline accent is a one-week production change that every other major American sports league has been doing for decades. The Conference Finals deserve the same visual respect that the LCS, the Conference Championships, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Final already get.

The league could also bring back the broader "NBA Playoffs" wordmark at center court for Rounds 1 and 2, the way they did from 2010 through 2014. Make every playoff game look like a playoff game. Stop pretending that the digital broadcast overlay is enough.

The Finals logo on the court for 2026 is the right move. The Conference Finals courts being unbranded is the wrong one. Every other major American sports league has figured out how to brand its conference championship round on the playing surface. The NBA used to do this and stopped.
