Dodger Stadium has stood without a corporate name for over 60 years. That changed this week. It's now officially Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium, and for lifelong fans like us who grew up making that drive up Vin Scully Avenue, it hits a little different.
Let's get the obvious out of the way: it's a little trippy. If you're sitting up in the top deck and you look out over the field, that Dodgers logo at the top of the stadium is one of the most iconic views in all of baseball. Now there's Uniqlo signage sitting right underneath it. If you've spent your whole life watching games with that clean, untouched skyline, the new branding is going to take some getting used to.
But here's the thing. They did it the right way.
The name isn't "Uniqlo Stadium" or "Uniqlo Park." It's Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium. You're still going to Dodger Stadium. The identity isn't gone. It's just sharing the marquee now. That distinction matters, and it shows the Dodgers understand what that name means to the fanbase.
The Partner
As for the partner itself, Uniqlo is a clean, globally respected brand. This isn't some random crypto company or a regional insurance firm slapping their name on your childhood. If anything, Uniqlo's minimalist aesthetic is about as inoffensive a naming rights partner as you could ask for.
And if the money from this deal helps keep this roster together and brings more championships to Los Angeles, then we're not going to complain. The Dodgers just put together one of the greatest rosters in baseball history. If a Uniqlo logo at the top of the stadium is the price of keeping that going, we'll take it.
More to Come
We're heading to Dodger Stadium tomorrow night for the ring ceremony, so we'll be getting an in-person look at all the new signage with our own eyes. Stay tuned for updated photos and a full breakdown of how it all looks from inside the park.
The signage is new. The feeling when you walk through those gates? That hasn't changed.
