Who has actually been the best team of the 2020s? Not the best regular-season record or the loudest offseason, but the team that keeps showing up in the playoffs and keeps winning there.
We scored all 92 teams in the NFL, NBA and MLB on the same system, six seasons each, so a baseball team can be ranked next to a football team. The Dodgers come out on top. The Chiefs are second. And the most interesting team on the list might be ninth.
How We Scored It
1 pt
for making the playoffs
+1 pt
for every round won (a first-round bye counts as a round won)
+2 pts
bonus for winning the title
7 pts
the most a team can earn in one season
Seasons counted: NFL 2020 through 2025, NBA 2020-21 through 2025-26, MLB 2020 through 2025. All three leagues played four rounds every one of those years, so a title is worth the same 7 points everywhere. NBA play-in losers did not make the playoffs. Ties on points are broken by 2020s regular-season winning percentage. Results from Basketball-Reference, Baseball-Reference, ESPN and NFL.com.
Each team's row has a strip of six boxes, one per season, so you can see the whole decade at a glance.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers: 28 points
The Dodgers made the playoffs all six years and won three World Series: 2020, 2024 and 2025. No other team in any of the three leagues won more than two titles. Even their misses were deep runs or first-round byes, which is why they lead the Chiefs by three points.
2. Kansas City Chiefs: 25 points
Kansas City played in four of the first five Super Bowls of the decade, winning two (the 2022 and 2023 seasons) and losing two. The only thing that kept them from first place was 2025, a 6-11 season and the first time this decade they missed the playoffs.
3. Boston Celtics: 18 points
Six playoff trips in six seasons, two Finals and the 2024 title. Boston was the NBA's most consistent team of the decade.
4. Houston Astros: 18 points
Five postseasons, two World Series trips and the 2022 title. The Astros reached at least the LCS in each of the first four seasons we counted.
5. Denver Nuggets: 15 points
The Nuggets made the playoffs all six years and won the 2023 title.
6. Los Angeles Rams: 15 points
The 2021 Super Bowl champions made the playoffs five times in six seasons, and reached the NFC title game again in 2025.
7. New York Knicks: 15 points
The Knicks climbed every year: a second-round exit, another second-round exit, the conference finals and then the 2026 title, the franchise's first since 1973.
8. Atlanta Braves: 15 points
Atlanta won the 2021 World Series and made the postseason five times.
9. Buffalo Bills: 14 points
Here is the team that breaks the system. Buffalo had the best regular-season record of any team in all three leagues this decade, a .730 winning percentage, and made the playoffs all six years. It never made the Super Bowl. Twice the Bills lost in the AFC Championship Game and four times in the Divisional round.
10. Philadelphia Eagles: 14 points
Two Super Bowl trips in three years, a loss after the 2022 season and the title after the 2024 season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the best team of the 2020s?
By playoff success, the Los Angeles Dodgers. They made the postseason all six years and won three World Series (2020, 2024, 2025) for 28 points in our system.
What is the best NFL team of the 2020s?
The Kansas City Chiefs, with 25 points: five playoff trips, four Super Bowl appearances and two titles.
What is the best NBA team of the 2020s?
The Boston Celtics, with 18 points: six playoff trips, two NBA Finals and the 2024 championship.
Which team has the best record of the 2020s without a title?
The Buffalo Bills. Their .730 regular-season winning percentage is the best of any NFL, NBA or MLB team this decade, but they have not reached a Super Bowl.
How are the points calculated?
One point for making the playoffs, one more for each round won (a first-round bye counts as a round won) and a two-point bonus for winning the title. A champion earns 7 points in a season.
What is the best MLB team of the 2020s?
The Los Angeles Dodgers, by a wide margin. Their 28 points are the most of any team in any league, and the next-best baseball teams, the Astros (18) and the Braves (15), are well behind.
Who is the second-best team of the 2020s?
The Kansas City Chiefs, with 25 points. Only the Dodgers score higher, and nobody else in the three leagues is within seven points of the Chiefs.
Why are the Dodgers ranked ahead of the Chiefs?
Three titles beat two. The Dodgers also made the playoffs all six seasons, while the Chiefs made it five times. Both teams won 16 playoff rounds.
Which teams made the playoffs every year of the 2020s?
Four teams went six for six: the Dodgers, the Celtics, the Nuggets and the Bills.
Which teams never made the playoffs in the 2020s?
Seven teams scored zero: the New York Jets, the Atlanta Falcons, the Charlotte Hornets, the Los Angeles Angels, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Washington Nationals and the Colorado Rockies.
What is the worst team of the 2020s?
The New York Jets finish 92nd. They missed the playoffs all six seasons and have the lowest regular-season winning percentage on the list, .277.
Which team has the best regular-season record of the 2020s?
The Buffalo Bills, at .730. The Chiefs are second at .713, and the Celtics lead the NBA at .674.
Why are the Bills only ninth if they have the best record?
Our system scores the playoffs, not the regular season. The Bills made the playoffs every year and won eight rounds, but without a title they miss out on the biggest points.
What is the best NBA team of the 2020s without a title?
The Phoenix Suns, with 10 points from five playoff trips and a 2021 Finals run. They are 18th overall.
What is the best MLB team of the 2020s without a title?
The New York Yankees, with 12 points and five playoff trips. They are 15th overall.
Who won the titles in the 2020s?
NFL: Buccaneers (2020 season), Rams (2021), Chiefs (2022 and 2023), Eagles (2024) and Seahawks (2025). NBA: Bucks (2021), Warriors (2022), Nuggets (2023), Celtics (2024), Thunder (2025) and Knicks (2026). MLB: Dodgers (2020, 2024 and 2025), Braves (2021), Astros (2022) and Rangers (2023).
Which league has had the most different champions this decade?
The NBA. Six seasons produced six different champions. The NFL had five, with the Chiefs winning twice, and MLB had four, with the Dodgers winning three times.
Why don't the Lakers' 2020 title count?
The Lakers won the 2019-20 title in the bubble, and our NBA window starts with the 2020-21 season so each league counts six seasons. The Dodgers' 2020 World Series and the Buccaneers' 2020 season title do count, because those seasons were played in 2020.
Do the 2026 playoffs count?
Not yet. The 2026 MLB postseason and the 2026 NFL season are still being played, so the latest seasons counted are MLB 2025, NFL 2025 and NBA 2025-26. We will update the ranking as new seasons finish.
Where do the Philadelphia Eagles rank?
10th, with 14 points. They made the playoffs five times and won the Super Bowl after the 2024 season.
Where do the New York Knicks rank?
7th, with 15 points. Five playoff trips and the 2026 NBA title put them in the top 10, tied on points with the Nuggets, Rams and Braves.
Where do the Golden State Warriors rank?
16th, with 11 points. The 2022 title carries them, but they made the playoffs only three times in six seasons.
How can a champion rank so low?
A title is worth 7 points in one season, but steady playoff teams can pass that over six years. The 2023 champion Texas Rangers made the playoffs only once and are 34th.
Which team has the most rounds won in the 2020s?
The Dodgers and the Chiefs are tied with 16 playoff rounds won. The Astros are next with 11.
Can you compare teams from different leagues like this?
Yes. All three leagues played four playoff rounds every season we counted, so making the playoffs, winning a round and winning a title mean the same thing in each one.
The Bottom Line
Titles matter most in this system, and the two teams that won more than one, the Dodgers and the Chiefs, run away with it. Below them, the list rewards teams that keep coming back: the Celtics and Nuggets never missed the playoffs, and the Bills made it every year without ever getting the last word.
