Wednesday, September 9
All fifteen Wednesday games are in, and the slate did something we have not seen all season: not one home club wore an alternate. Fifteen for fifteen in white or a version of it. Ten wore plain home whites, Philadelphia, the White Sox and the Yankees wore pinstripes, and San Francisco and Milwaukee wore cream. A whole night of baseball without a single dark jersey on the home side.
That handed the entire evening to the visitors, and ten of them took it. Two black alternates went out at the same time, Arizona in Kansas City and Pittsburgh at the White Sox. Colorado wore the purple alternate at Yankee Stadium, Houston the orange at Philadelphia and Cincinnati the red script in Los Angeles, which are the three loudest jerseys of the day. The Angels wore red at Fenway, Texas royal blue in Seattle, and three clubs went navy, Minnesota at Detroit for a second straight night, Washington in San Diego and Tampa Bay in Atlanta. The other five visitors wore road gray. Colour against white, fifteen times over, with the away team carrying every decision that mattered.

All fifteen Tuesday games are in, and the night split cleanly between coasts. The East was gray and white with three alternates doing the work: the Twins wore the navy alternate at Detroit, the Rays the navy alternate at Atlanta and the Angels the red alternate at Fenway, all three against plain home whites. Pinstripes showed up three times, the Phillies against Houston's gray, the Yankees against Colorado's gray and the White Sox against a Pirates black alternate that was the only color-on-pinstripes pairing of the night. The Cubs stayed in royal blue at Milwaukee for a second straight game against the Brewers' home cream, still no pinstripes on that shirt, and Cleveland went back to gray in Baltimore after Monday's navy. The West brought the two loudest shirts of the day: the Reds in the red script alternate at Dodger Stadium against the home white, and the Giants in the black City Connect against St. Louis gray. The Rangers wore the royal blue alternate at Seattle, the Blue Jays gray at the Athletics, and the Nationals gray at San Diego, with the Padres in their home whites. Twenty-one of thirty jerseys were white, cream or gray.

All eleven Labor Day games are in, and the holiday split neatly in two. The afternoon was the colorful half: two cream-against-gray matinees, the Phillies back in the cream for a second straight day against Atlanta's gray and the Brewers in the home cream, the one without pinstripes, against the Cubs in royal blue, plus Kansas City in royal blue, Cleveland in navy at Baltimore, the Angels in red at Fenway and Detroit's navy Motor City City Connect against Minnesota's gray. The night went traditional: San Diego in home white against the Nationals' gray, the Giants in home cream against St. Louis in gray, the Dodgers in home white against Cincinnati's gray, and Toronto's royal blue alternate the only color in the late window, against the Athletics in white. Fourteen of the twenty-two jerseys were white, cream or gray, the most traditional day in a week.

Sunday, September 6
All fifteen are in, and Sunday was the most colorful day of the season. Twenty of the thirty jerseys were something other than white or gray, and only two games, Red Sox at Orioles and Cardinals at Rockies, had a plain white or gray on both sides. Ten of the fifteen home clubs dressed in something other than white: the Reds in the red script alternate, the Phillies in cream, the Pirates in the black "Pittsburgh" alternate, the Guardians in red, the Mets in the blue pullover, the Marlins in teal, the Royals in royal blue, the Rangers in powder blue, the Astros in navy, the Mariners in the Steelheads cream throwback and the Padres in camouflage. The road side answered with the Brewers, Braves, Tigers, Rays, Twins and Nationals all in navy, the Angels in red, the Cubs in royal blue and the Diamondbacks in Sedona red. Zero City Connects on a fifteen-game Sunday, a day after Saturday used three.
On the most colorful Sunday of the year, the best jersey was the quietest one. The Phillies' cream is a day-game uniform in the truest sense: it only comes out for afternoon home games, the cream reads warmer than white under sun, and the red script and pinstripes sit on it the way the 1950 Whiz Kids intended. Atlanta's navy alternate across from it was the right partner, a dark road jersey that let the cream carry the light, and a 5-4 Braves win did nothing to change the picture. Jersey of the Day.
Houston owns one of the best color pairings in the sport and spent Sunday afternoon hiding it. The navy alternate is navy on navy, navy numbers outlined in a thin orange that disappears at broadcast distance, and against Arizona's Sedona red it read as a dark block with a star on the chest. The orange alternate exists, the home white exists, and both would have turned a red-versus-Houston matchup into something. Navy under a closed roof on a day the rest of the league went to color was the flattest decision on the slate. The Stinker.

The full fifteen are in and the league put the City Connects away. After Friday sent twelve clubs into them, Saturday used three: the Mets in the gray NYC jersey, the Reds in red at Great American, and the Dodgers in the cream one against Washington. What replaced them was an alternates night, and a light blue one. Three clubs reached for a powder blue on the same afternoon, the Brewers in Cincinnati, the Royals against Toronto and the Cardinals in Denver, which is as many as the league had worn in the previous week combined. Three more went black: the Pirates in the "Pittsburgh" alternate against the Angels in red, the Orioles in the plain black rather than the BMORE City Connect, and the Diamondbacks in Houston. Nine road clubs travelled in gray, and seven home clubs answered in plain white.

Three clubs wore a light blue on Saturday and this is the one that knows what it is for. Milwaukee's powder blue is a road uniform and St. Louis wears theirs as a nostalgia piece, but Kansas City is the only team in baseball for which powder blue is not a costume: it is the colour the franchise won in, and the club wears it at home like a primary rather than a novelty. The script and the piping do almost nothing, which is the point. Toronto's road gray across from it gave the blue the whole frame. Jersey of the Day.
The problem here is not the colour, it is the brief. City Connect exists to say something about a city that the regular uniform cannot, and Cincinnati answered the question by putting the Reds in red. That is the one thing this franchise already does. The club has the oldest name in the sport and a genuinely deep closet, and a programme designed to surface something unexpected produced the most expected shirt they could have made. Milwaukee's powder blue standing across from it only underlined how little was ventured. The Stinker.

Red against black, and the reason it lands is that the Pirates went all the way. Pittsburgh could have answered the Angels in home white and had a perfectly good-looking game. Instead they wore the black "Pittsburgh" alternate, which turns the whole left side of the frame into a dark block and leaves the Angels red with nowhere to hide. Red on black is the oldest high-contrast pairing there is and it usually fails because one side goes muddy under lights; here the gold on the Pittsburgh script keeps the black from flattening and the Angels red stays genuinely red rather than sliding toward maroon. The Pattern Engine: Running Uniform Counts
This is where the tracker earns its keep over time. Every look gets counted, and as the days stack up this section becomes the evidence file behind every "what jersey are they wearing today" question: how often each team wears each uniform, and which days of the week each alternate actually shows up. Twenty-four days in, we have logged 319 games and 638 individual uniforms. 55 different alternates and throwbacks account for 229 of them. Here is the alternate board.
Seattle's navy is the most-worn alternate in baseball right now at 13, just ahead of the Pirates' black at 12 and the Padres' brown at 10, and all three are really road uniforms in everything but name. That is the quiet story of the alternate board: the jerseys at the top are not special-occasion pieces, they are teams that have effectively replaced a gray with something with colour in it.

The day-of-week rhythm is still the clearest pattern in the data, and it has held up as the sample has grown. 27 different City Connects have been worn 48 times, and 32 of those 48 came on a Friday. Add the 9 Saturdays and Friday plus Saturday accounts for 85 percent of every City Connect we have logged. The seven that fall outside are three Mondays, two Tuesdays, one Wednesday and one Sunday, and midweek slates keep confirming the shape: plenty of alternates, almost no City Connects. Houston is the reason Monday keeps creeping up, because the white "Stros" kit is tied to Monday home games.
The one club that ignores the calendar entirely is the Angels. Their cream Surf City City Connect is the most-worn City Connect on the board at 5, and it has come out on a Tuesday, a Wednesday, a Friday, a Saturday and a Sunday. Nobody else has worn one on more than two different days of the week. If you are trying to predict an Angels home game, the City Connect is genuinely live any night, which is not true of the other 29 teams.
The other reliable rhythm is the Sunday matinee, where the powder blues, creams and throwbacks come out. Two of them are now formal standing traditions rather than tendencies: San Diego wears the camouflage jersey for every Sunday home game, and Seattle's new black-and-cream Steelheads throwback owns every Sunday home game at T-Mobile Park. Around them, the Blue Jays and Rangers powder blues, the Giants and Brewers creams, and the Marlins, Rays and Mets throwbacks have all used the Sunday slot.
Two exceptions still prove the Friday rule. The Pirates' Friday-home black City Connect missed one week only because the game itself was rained out, and the Nationals were the lone club to skip their slot by choice, wearing the navy alternate instead of the District Blueprint. Friday is officially City Connect night in 2026, and the log now has three weeks of receipts.

We check every game the morning after using game photos and broadcast footage from the night before, then log both teams' uniforms. When something is ambiguous, like a City Connect versus a similar regular alternate, we verify against multiple dated game photos before recording it.
How often do MLB teams wear their City Connect uniforms?
Most City Connect uniforms follow a fixed weekly slot. The Pirates wear their all-black 2026 City Connect for Friday home games, the Reds wear their pinstriped City Connect 2.0 on Saturdays, and most other clubs use similar weekend anchors. Do MLB teams always wear white at home and gray on the road?
No, and that is exactly why this tracker exists. White at home and gray on the road is the default, but on the Friday, July 10 slate alone, 19 of the 28 uniforms on the field were alternates or City Connects. Some clubs, like the Phillies, follow a strict published rotation, while others swap in alternates whenever the mood or the starting pitcher calls for it.
