ALDS Game 4 at Rate Field, with the White Sox up 2-1 and one win from the ALCS against the Rays. After wearing the black alternate in all three games so far, Chicago switched to the home white pinstripes at home, and the Guardians wore the road gray with "Cleveland" across the chest. White against gray is the most standard look of the series and we grade it a C+. If Cleveland wins, the series goes back to Progressive Field for Game 5.

Division Series Game 3 day in the American League, and the first time either ALDS has moved. Up 2-0, the White Sox came home to a loud Rate Field with a chance to sweep and went with the black alternate again, the same "Sox" jersey they wore for both wins in Cleveland, this time over the home white pinstriped pants. The Guardians wore the road gray with "Cleveland" across the chest. Black against gray is darker and quieter than the red-against-black look from Game 2, and we grade it a B. Cleveland spoiled the sweep, winning 9-3 to cut the series to 2-1, so there is a Game 4 at Rate Field on Thursday. In Atlanta, the Braves are down 2-1 to the Dodgers and facing elimination in NLDS Game 4, and they went back to the home whites after wearing red in Game 3. The Dodgers stayed in the road gray with the "Dodgers" script and the blue "LA" cap. Script gray against home white is clean and classic, and we grade it a B+. Los Angeles won 4-1 to take the series 3-1 and moves on to the NLCS. In the Bronx, the Yankees are down 2-0 and wore the home pinstripes for ALDS Game 3, and the Rays wore the road gray with "Tampa Bay" in the gradient script, topped with the navy "Devil Rays" cap. The new gray against the pinstripes gets a B. Tampa Bay won 4-3 to sweep the series and moves on to the ALCS. Out west, the Brewers lead 2-1 and went back to the same look from Game 3 for NLDS Game 4: the navy alternate over road gray pants with the yellow-front cap, against the Padres in home pinstripes and the all-brown cap. Same look as Game 3, same grade: B-. Milwaukee won 3-1 to take the series 3-1, which sets up a Brewers-Dodgers NLCS.

With the Dodgers and Braves tied 1-1, Atlanta came home to Truist Park and went straight to the red alternate, the same look it wore to close out the Phillies in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series: red jersey with the navy "Braves" script, home white pants and the navy cap with the red bill. The Dodgers wore the road gray with the "Dodgers" script, gray pants and the blue "LA" cap. Red against gray is the best contrast this series has had, and we grade it an A-. Los Angeles won it 3-1 and leads the series 2-1. Out west, the Brewers took a 2-0 series lead to Petco Park and went with the navy alternate over gray pants and the navy cap with the yellow front panel, not the new powder blue road set. The Padres are in their home white pinstripes with the all-brown cap. Navy and brown are both dark, so the caps and trim blend more than they pop, and we grade it a B-. Division Series Game 2 day in the American League. Cleveland changed it up: the White Sox were back in the black "Sox" alternate over road gray pants with the black cap, but the Guardians swapped Game 1's home whites for the red alternate with white pants and the navy-crowned, red-billed "C" cap. A new matchup gets a new grade. Black against red is a loud, dark-on-bright pairing that finally looks like October baseball in Cleveland, and we grade it an A-. Chicago won it 4-3 and takes a 2-0 series lead home to Rate Field. At Tropicana Field, the Yankees were back in road gray with the navy cap and the Rays were in home white with the navy "TB" cap, the exact matchup from Game 1, so it gets the same grade, a B. Division Series Game 2 day, with two NL games on the board. The Padres and Brewers ran it back at American Family Field with the roof open on a sunny 68-degree afternoon: San Diego in the khaki road set with brown pinstripes and the all-brown cap, Milwaukee in home cream with the all-navy cap. It is the exact matchup from Game 1, so it gets the same grade, a C. Two sand-toned uniforms in the same frame blur together, and nothing about a second look changes that. Milwaukee rallied in the bottom of the ninth to win it 4-3 and take a 2-0 series lead. At Dodger Stadium the Braves switched things up for Game 2, going to the navy alternate jersey with road gray pants and the all-navy cap, against the Dodgers in home white with the blue cap. Navy against white is clean contrast, and the red "Atlanta" script pops on navy more than anywhere else in their closet. The gray pants are the only nitpick. We grade it an A-, the same as the road grays in Game 1. Atlanta won it 3-2, so the series heads to Atlanta tied 1-1.

The Pattern Engine: Running Uniform Counts

This is where the tracker earns its keep over time. Every look gets counted, and as the days stack up this section becomes the evidence file behind every "what jersey are they wearing today" question: how often each team wears each uniform, and which days of the week each alternate actually shows up. Twenty-four days in, we have logged 319 games and 638 individual uniforms. 55 different alternates and throwbacks account for 229 of them. Here is the alternate board.

Seattle's navy is the most-worn alternate in baseball right now at 13, just ahead of the Pirates' black at 12 and the Padres' brown at 10, and all three are really road uniforms in everything but name. That is the quiet story of the alternate board: the jerseys at the top are not special-occasion pieces, they are teams that have effectively replaced a gray with something with colour in it.

The day-of-week rhythm is still the clearest pattern in the data, and it has held up as the sample has grown. 27 different City Connects have been worn 48 times, and 32 of those 48 came on a Friday. Add the 9 Saturdays and Friday plus Saturday accounts for 85 percent of every City Connect we have logged. The seven that fall outside are three Mondays, two Tuesdays, one Wednesday and one Sunday, and midweek slates keep confirming the shape: plenty of alternates, almost no City Connects. Houston is the reason Monday keeps creeping up, because the white "Stros" kit is tied to Monday home games.

The one club that ignores the calendar entirely is the Angels. Their cream Surf City City Connect is the most-worn City Connect on the board at 5, and it has come out on a Tuesday, a Wednesday, a Friday, a Saturday and a Sunday. Nobody else has worn one on more than two different days of the week. If you are trying to predict an Angels home game, the City Connect is genuinely live any night, which is not true of the other 29 teams.

The other reliable rhythm is the Sunday matinee, where the powder blues, creams and throwbacks come out. Two of them are now formal standing traditions rather than tendencies: San Diego wears the camouflage jersey for every Sunday home game, and Seattle's new black-and-cream Steelheads throwback owns every Sunday home game at T-Mobile Park. Around them, the Blue Jays and Rangers powder blues, the Giants and Brewers creams, and the Marlins, Rays and Mets throwbacks have all used the Sunday slot.

Two exceptions still prove the Friday rule. The Pirates' Friday-home black City Connect missed one week only because the game itself was rained out, and the Nationals were the lone club to skip their slot by choice, wearing the navy alternate instead of the District Blueprint. Friday is officially City Connect night in 2026, and the log now has three weeks of receipts.
