The Red Wings' Centennial sweater is not done after all. Detroit made it for its 100th season last year, and on Thursday, October 29, it came back for the first time this season against the Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings won 4-1, Viktor Arvidsson scored a hat trick, and the hats came down onto the ice in solid red.

What the Centennial Sweater Looks Like
Image: Fanatics
- Color: solid red. No white shoulder yoke like the regular home sweater.
- Crest: the 1930s version of the Winged Wheel, chain-stitched in cream so it has a textured, vintage feel.
- Stripes: several thin cream stripes across the sleeves and the hem.
- Collar: a lace-up collar, with "Hockeytown" inside the neck.
- Numbers: cream, in an old-style block font.
The cream instead of bright white is the detail that makes it. It looks like a sweater that has been around for 100 years.
Our Grade: A
This is the best sweater the Red Wings own right now, better than the regular home red. The regular Detroit uniform is one of the classics in the sport, and this one manages to be a classic with more personality: the stitched wheel, the cream, the stripes.
It also looks great on TV. Solid red against a white road sweater is as clear a picture as hockey gets, and the cream stripes show up even from the wide camera. The only thing keeping it from an A+ is that it is a little busy at the hem. We would not change anything else.
Will the Red Wings Wear It Again?
Detroit has not published a date list for it this season. The night to watch is Wednesday, November 18 against Boston, exactly 100 years after the franchise's first NHL game, which the Red Wings are calling the Original Faceoff. The uniform for that game has not been announced. Every Red Wings game and sweater is in our Red Wings 2026-27 uniform schedule, and each night is logged in the NHL uniform tracker.
Detroit is also one of two teams, with the Rangers, that has not given dates for its Hometown Remix jersey yet.
