The Penguins unveil a 60th anniversary logo: on the helmets all season, on the shoulders for the home opener

Pittsburgh Penguins 60th anniversary logo, a black 60 with the skating penguin inside the 6 and five gold stars arched over the 0

Pittsburgh's 60th season has its own mark. Five stars for the five Stanley Cups, and gold, white and black stripes for the Three Rivers, with the skating penguin inside the 6.

The team says it goes on the helmets for every home and road game this season, and on the shoulders as a patch for the home opener against Montreal on October 3. Replica patches go on sale that night through the Penguins Foundation, with proceeds going to the Foundation. The Penguins won the opener 6-5 in overtime.

I like it. My favorite Penguins era was the three-headed monster, Jordan Staal, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby, in the Vegas gold and black. This one's nice too.

BYU brings back the classic navy home uniform for Friday night against Iowa State

BYU revealed its combination for Iowa State on Monday morning: the classic navy home uniform, the Cougars' primary home look from 2005 to 2019. BYU moved to royal as its main color in 2020, and it has not worn this navy home set since beating USF in 2021, per BYU Cougars On SI.

It fits the pattern of the season. BYU has worn a different combination in every game so far. The Iowa State game is Friday, October 9, at 8:15 p.m. Mountain, during homecoming week in Provo.

I like BYU's normal brighter blue more, but this is a classic look and it looks good for a home game. The facemask looks great, and the jersey looks great with the white pants. I'll give it a B.

The Power K is back: Kentucky brings out its 1975-91 helmet logo for LSU on Saturday

Kentucky Athletics put the Power K helmet front and center in its game graphic for Saturday night, and A Sea of Blue reports the throwback logo is coming back for the LSU game at Kroger Field. Kentucky wore the Power K on its helmets from 1975 to 1991.

It is the second helmet surprise in two weeks. Kentucky debuted a chrome helmet with a blue stripe and the blue UK logo at South Carolina on October 3 and won 35-34 in overtime. LSU visits Saturday, October 10, at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

I love the Power K for this game against LSU. We'll see it in the full set, but the K helmet gets a B+ from me.

The Canucks wear the Black Skate on back-to-back home nights to open October

Vancouver went to the Black Skate alternate on Saturday against Calgary, a 4-1 win, and again on Sunday against Vegas, a 3-2 loss. Both were home games at Rogers Arena, and the visitors wore white both nights.

The Canucks wore the Skate 20 times in 2025-26 and published that schedule in October last year. They have not published a 2026-27 Skate schedule yet, so we are logging each one as it happens.

I like Vancouver's normal colors, so I don't really love this. I like it as a throwback they wear now and then, but I really hope they don't make it a consistent thing. It is big news that they wore it on back-to-back home nights, but I don't love it.

The Giants wear Legacy Blue for the Super Bowl XXI team's 40th and beat Arizona 36-24

New York wore the Legacy Blue uniform on Sunday at MetLife Stadium: the navy helmet with the underlined GIANTS wordmark, the royal blue jersey with red and white trim, and white pants with red and blue stripes. The end zones went vintage to match. It is the look the 1986 team wore, and that team was honored at halftime, 40 years after the Super Bowl XXI win over Denver.

Arizona wore all white. The Giants won 36-24. Legacy Blue comes out once more this season, December 6 against the 49ers.

I love this jersey so much. I love when the helmet doesn't exactly match the jersey, like the Rams throwback used to do it, and here the Giants pair a darker navy helmet with a lighter blue jersey. The piping on the pants, the collar and the shoulders is incredible. This one gets an A+ from me.
