What the Golden Knights' Hometown Remix Jersey Looks Like
Vegas built the sweater around the casino floor. The base is black. The knight shield sits on the chest in metallic gold thread inside an ornate jade frame. The shoulders are a jade yoke with a felt-table texture and the four card suits. The sleeves carry red-and-black bands cut like a roulette wheel, plus gold stripes and a "Vegas" wordmark. The numbers use a playing-card typeface, and "Since 2017" sits inside the hem.
Why It Does Not Work
Every one of those ideas is on the sweater at the same time. Felt, cards, roulette and gold are four different themes, and the jersey tries to show all of them at once. The jade fights with the gold, the red roulette bands fight with the jade, and the black base turns the whole thing muddy from a distance. Up close it is a theme park. From the upper deck it is a mess.
It also walks away from what Vegas already does well. The Golden Knights' gold-and-steel look is one of the cleanest identities any expansion team has built. This sweater buries all of that under a costume.
The best Hometown Remix jerseys do the opposite: one idea, one strong color, a big logo in the middle of the chest. That is why Pittsburgh's pop-art sweater finished first and Vegas finished last.
