Miami has brought back the uniforms of the 2001 national championship team, and did the thing almost nobody does with a throwback: released both versions. The orange home set and the white road set, together, on the same day.

That matters more than the jerseys themselves. A throwback release is usually one shirt for one game. Two complete sets is a program showing you what it could look like full time.

Both sets run off the same white shell: a white helmet with a green and orange centre stripe, the U on the side, a white facemask and the ACC decal.

The Green Pants Are the Story

Miami's current road uniform is all white: white helmet, white jersey, white pants, worn at Stanford and again at Wake Forest this season. It is clean and it is anonymous, and it is what most of college football looks like on the road in 2026.

The throwback puts green pants under the white jersey, and the whole uniform changes character. Now the helmet stripe, the shoulder yoke and the pants are all carrying the same green, the orange trim has something to sit against, and Miami looks like Miami from the far side of a stadium instead of like a white shirt with a logo on the helmet.

This is the oldest rule in the sport and programs keep forgetting it: the pants are half the uniform. Miami owns the exact colour that makes its road set distinctive and has been leaving it in the equipment room.

The Road Whites

The better of the two, and it is not close. Three colours, each doing one job: white base, green pants and yoke, orange as trim and outline only. Nothing is fighting anything. The green numerals with the orange outline read cleanly at distance, which is more than you can say for most throwbacks that put a light number on a light jersey.

It is also the version that solves a real problem. Miami's road look this season is white on white on white, and this is the same jersey family with the one change that makes it identifiable. If the program kept a single thing from this release, it should be this.

The Home Orange

A very good orange jersey, and a half step behind the whites. The shoulder yoke gives the orange somewhere to breathe and the white numbers outlined in green are correct, but orange over white under a white helmet is close to what Miami already wears at home. The throwback improves it rather than transforming it, which is exactly the opposite of what the road set does.

Put the two side by side and the whites are the ones you would change your wardrobe for.

These Should Be the Primary Sets

The honest position: we would rather Miami wore these full time than once.

There is nothing in the current wardrobe these do not beat. The orange home set is an improvement on the orange home set. The road whites are a clear improvement on the all-white road look. And the shoot puts them in the Hall of Honor under the Orange Bowl photograph, which is the program saying out loud that this is the era it wants to be measured against.

There is some weight to that this year. Last season ended in the national championship game at Hard Rock Stadium, a 27-21 loss to Indiana. The last time Miami finished the job was the team these uniforms belong to.

When Will Miami Wear Them?

No date has been announced. Our Miami Hurricanes 2026 uniform schedule already flagged Florida State's October 17 visit as the most likely home date for a special set, based on 2024, and that remains the obvious slot for the orange version. The whites need a road game, and Miami has North Carolina on October 31 and Notre Dame on November 7 left.
