Every NBA Team's 2026-27 Uniform Closet, Ranked 1-30: The Sixers Win, and the League Has a Black Jersey Problem

The Sixers kicked off Media Day by posting their "threads for the season," all six of them, and it settled a question for us: which NBA team has the best uniform closet for 2026-27? We ranked all 30, judging the whole set together, the core jerseys, the alternates, and whether it all hangs together as one identity.

One pattern jumped out. About a third of the league now carries three or more black or mostly black jerseys, between black Statements, black City Editions and the new black Specter set. Black sells, but a closet where three of five jerseys look alike is a closet that wastes its colors, and it cost several big names here.

Many City Editions this year are returning designs that leaked in August and have not been shown by the teams yet. We mark those as leaked or reported.

1. Philadelphia 76ers: A

The closet: Six jerseys: blue PHILA Icon, white PHILA Association, red Phila script Statement, the cream Phila script City Edition, the new black Specter with spray-painted stars, and the black Iverson-era Hardwood Classic. Patch: Bloom Energy (new).

The deepest closet in the league, and every piece is either classic Sixers or a real idea. The Iverson black is the best throwback anyone is wearing this year. The only knock is two black alternates that overlap.

2. Minnesota Timberwolves: A

The closet: All new: the white, blue and black Statement from the full rebrand, one system with the tree print across the core, plus the returning white 2018-19 Earned design as the City Edition.

The most coherent closet in the West and the best rebrand in years. It dropped one spot only because the City Edition sits outside the new system.

3. Indiana Pacers: A-

The closet: Association and Icon with the ring wordmark, the new gold pinstriped Statement (31 games on the team's own schedule), the Moments Mixtape City (reported) and an ABA Classic (reported).

Every piece is navy, gold and white, and the gold pinstripes are the best Statement in the East. Indiana wears it the most, which is the right call.

4. Charlotte Hornets: A-

The closet: Pinstriped white CHARLOTTE Association, pinstriped teal HORNETS Icon, purple Statement, and the 2017-18 black Buzz City returning as the City Edition (leaked).

Teal and purple are the best color pair in the conference, and the pinstripes use both. The black Buzz City hides them, which is the only thing keeping this out of the top three.

5. Portland Trail Blazers: A-

The closet: White BLAZERS and black PORTLAND (both updated in 2025-26), red Statement, and the cream Rip City City Edition from 2019-20.

The pinwheel sash ties three jerseys together better than any design element in the league. The cream City softens the palette and loses the sash, but it is still a good one.

6. Miami Heat: B+

The closet: White HEAT, black MIAMI, red Statement and the ViceWave City Edition (leaked).

A tight red, black and white base plus the best-known alternate brand in the sport. Vice has been worn so often it feels expected now, which costs it a half grade.

7. Chicago Bulls: B+

The closet: The same Association and Icon they have worn for decades, the black pinstriped CHICAGO Statement, and the 2017-18 city flag City Edition (leaked).

The least changed core set in the league and still one of the best. The pinstripe and the flag add Chicago history without touching what already works.

8. Washington Wizards: B+

The closet: White wizards, red washington, navy The District of Columbia Statement, and the pink Cherry Blossom City Edition (confirmed).

Stars and stripes done well, and the District Statement is the best piece. The Cherry Blossom is off palette but could only belong to Washington.

9. Brooklyn Nets: B+

The closet: Association, black BROOKLYN Icon, black NETS Statement, the Biggie Coogi City Edition, and a new Classic throwback with a red Nets script for the 60th season. Patch: Alibaba (new).

Four of five looks are black and white, so the Classic is the only color in the closet, and the team schedules it 16 times, more than the Icon. They know.

10. LA Clippers: B+

The closet: White and naval blue script jerseys, the red Los Angeles Statement (all from 2024-25), and the Pacific blue Mixtape City Edition.

Four genuinely different jerseys and not one of them is black. That alone puts them ahead of half the league.

11. Milwaukee Bucks: B+

The closet: Association, green Icon, black Statement, and the 2017-18 Cream City City Edition. Patch: Uline (new).

Green and cream are one of the most distinctive palettes in sports, and Cream City leans into it. The black Statement is the one generic piece.

12. Orlando Magic: B+

The closet: The 2025 pinstripe rebrand across Association, Icon and Statement, plus a platinum City Edition (leaked).

The most unified set in the East, every jersey a variation on one idea. The pale platinum City is the weak link.

13. Denver Nuggets: B

The closet: White, midnight navy, the royal Mile High City Statement, the white Rainbow Skyline City Edition from 2018-19, and a reported ABA Classic for the franchise's 60th season.

The Rainbow Skyline is a top five alternate in the league. The royal Statement overlaps too much with everything else.

14. Oklahoma City Thunder: B

The closet: White, blue, orange and the navy Renaissance City Edition from 2023-24.

Four jerseys that never look alike, and the Renaissance is one of the better returning City picks. The core set is dated and has not changed in years.

15. Atlanta Hawks: B

The closet: White ATLANTA, a black HAWKS jersey in the Pac-Man era lettering, a red Statement with the Pac-Man hawk (reported, labels unconfirmed), the black MLK City Edition, and the new Specter.

If the Pac-Man pieces are real, Atlanta has the biggest identity swing in the East and it is a good one. Three black jerseys hold it back.

16. Detroit Pistons: B

The closet: White, blue Icon, black DET Statement, the red Mixtape City Edition (leaked) and the new teal Specter with flames.

The teal in both the City and the Specter gives the closet a real second theme, the 90s, instead of random alternates.

17. Houston Rockets: B

The closet: An all-new core: white HOUSTON, red ROCKETS and a black Statement, ketchup and mustard throughout, plus the 2023-24 white script City Edition.

The ketchup and mustard return is right, but the pinstripes and badges are busy, and the City Edition predates the rebrand so it has no yellow at all.

18. Boston Celtics: B

The closet: White, green, the black CELTICS Statement, the green and gold 2018-19 Earned City Edition (leaked), and the new Specter with a shamrock.

The most disciplined palette in the league. It is also the narrowest: the City is nearly a twin of the Icon.

19. New Orleans Pelicans: B-

The closet: White and navy from 2024-25, the red Crescent City Statement, and the black NOLA City Edition.

The red Crescent City is the best thing here. The black and neon City brings in a green that is not in the Pelicans palette.

20. San Antonio Spurs: B-

The closet: White, black, the silver San Antonio Statement (2025-26), the Fiesta City Edition, and a reported ABA Classic.

Silver and black is disciplined, and Fiesta is the only color in the closet. An ABA silver throwback would make two silver alternates.

21. Los Angeles Lakers: B-

The closet: White, gold, purple, the black City of Dreams City Edition (its third run) and the new Specter. Patch: Albert (new).

The best core trio in the league, then two black alternates that bury the purple and gold. Top heavy.

22. New York Knicks: B-

The closet: White, blue Icon, the black MSG gradient Statement, the Kith Mixtape City Edition (leaked) and the new Specter.

Orange and blue carry every piece, but three of five jerseys are black, and the blue is the best thing they own.

23. Memphis Grizzlies: C+

The closet: White, navy, light blue Statement and the 2021-22 Mixtape City Edition.

Cohesive and clearly Memphis, but the core three have not changed in years and the closet leans on the City for any variety.

24. Phoenix Suns: C+

The closet: White and purple sunburst, the black PHOENIX Statement and The Valley City Edition. Patch: Paze (new).

Purple and orange are used well on the core pair. If The Valley stays black, Phoenix has two black alternates built on the same sunset idea.

Bringing back purple fixed the black and yellow era. Two of four jerseys are still black or near black.

Sharp but generic. The purple dino is the only jersey that could only be Toronto.

28. Cleveland Cavaliers: C

The closet: White CAVS, wine CLEVELAND, black C Statement and the white to light blue 2018-19 Earned City Edition (leaked).

Wine and gold on the core is coherent. The light blue City has none of the club's colors, so the closet splits into two identities.

29. Dallas Mavericks: C

The closet: White, royal and navy, and the 2020-21 white and gold Legacy City Edition. Patch: Chase (new).

The core template has barely moved in two decades, and the returning City is gold on white, a color that is not in the Mavericks palette.
