San Francisco's closet is a story of one great idea and one bad one. The 49ers jersey schedule 2026 brings back the 1994 throwbacks three times, the look from the Super Bowl XXIX team, and it also brings back the all-black Rivalries uniform for one game against the Rams. In between sit the scarlet and white primaries, which carry most of the season and all wear the new 80th anniversary patch on the chest.
Here is every San Francisco 49ers jersey and uniform for 2026, ranked worst to first and graded, with the helmet and pants each one pairs with and the weeks it is on the field.
5. Black Rivalries Uniform ("For the Faithful")
The Rivalries set is all black: a black helmet with a gold facemask and two red stripes, a black jersey, and black pants. The numbers are red with a gold outline in a saloon-style letterform pulled from the club's Gold Rush wordmark, with a gold "Faithful" script above them and red and black sleeve stripes.
The numbers are genuinely good, the best in the 2025 Rivalries class, and the gold facemask is a strong piece of hardware. What holds it back is the black base. Scarlet and gold is one of the most valuable color pairings in American sports, and this uniform reduces it to trim on a black shirt. From the upper deck it is a dark uniform with red numbers, which could just as easily be Atlanta or Arizona. We graded it a C+ in our ranking of all 16 Rivalries uniforms, ninth of 16: the details carry it, the base color keeps it out of the B range.
When it is worn in 2026: once, Week 14 against the Rams at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, December 13, confirmed by the team.
4. White Road
The white road jersey is scarlet numbers on white, a small 49ERS wordmark above them, and the red-and-white sleeve stripes that have defined this franchise for decades, with the 80th anniversary patch on the chest this season. It pairs with the gold helmet and gold pants, and it shares the B+ we gave San Francisco in our grades for every NFL uniform: classic, permanent and correctly left alone.
We already have a Week 1 look at it. In Melbourne, San Francisco wore the gold helmet, white jersey and gold pants against the Rams' royal blue and yellow, three clean bands against one saturated block with nothing overlapping. The matchup graded a B- on our NFL uniform tracker, and the 49ers won 27-7.
It ranks below the scarlet only because white hands the jersey's job to the helmet and pants. The gold carries the color, and gold is the half of the palette we like less.
When it is worn in 2026: six road games. Week 1 (at Rams in Melbourne, worn and confirmed), 5 (at Seahawks), 7 (at Falcons), 13 (at Giants), 16 (at Chiefs) and 18 (at Cardinals). All but Week 1 follow the standard road rule rather than a team announcement.
3. Scarlet Home
The scarlet home jersey is the 49ers uniform everyone pictures: white numbers on scarlet, white sleeve stripes, and the gold helmet with the SF oval over gold pants. The 80th anniversary patch, a white "80" with black and gold trim and the SF oval underneath, sits on the chest this season and shows up best against the scarlet. It carries the same B+ from our league-wide ranking.
Scarlet is the strongest color San Francisco owns, and this is the uniform that puts it front and center, so it ranks above the white. What keeps both primaries out of the A tier is the gold: it is a flat, brownish metallic next to the scarlet, and on television the helmet and pants can read closer to tan than to gold.
When it is worn in 2026: seven home games. Weeks 2 (Dolphins), 3 (Cardinals), 4 (Broncos), 6 (Commanders), 9 (Raiders), 11 (Vikings, at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City as the designated home team) and 12 (Seahawks). These follow the club's usual scarlet-at-home practice rather than a week-by-week announcement. The 2025 plan of wearing white at Levi's early in the season to beat the heat is not on the 2026 schedule.
2. White 1994 Throwback
The white 1994 throwback is the road half of the set the 49ers wore during their Super Bowl XXIX season. The numbers are scarlet with a heavy black drop shadow, and the sleeves carry thick red, black and white stripes. There is no wordmark on the chest, just the numbers, which is exactly why it reads so well from a distance.
The black drop shadow is the key detail. It adds a third color that the modern set does not use, and it gives the numbers a depth that flat modern numbers do not have. We graded the 1994 set an A- on our 49ers uniform schedule, and the only thing keeping it from a flat A is the helmet: it is worn with the modern gold shell, which does not quite match the vintage feel of everything below the neck.
It ranks a step behind the red version only because scarlet is the stronger base color and the red one gets the bigger stage.
When it is worn in 2026: once, Week 15 at the Chargers on Thursday Night Football, confirmed by the team.
1. Red 1994 Throwback
The red 1994 throwback is the best thing the 49ers own. It is the home jersey of the Super Bowl XXIX team: a deep scarlet body, white numbers with the same heavy black drop shadow as the road version, and the oversized striped sleeves. Every detail comes from the greatest era in franchise history, so it feels earned rather than manufactured, and it is one of the most admired throwbacks in the league.
Scarlet is the franchise's best color, and the drop-shadow numbers give it the contrast the modern scarlet set lacks. It carries the same A- as the white version, held back only by the modern gold helmet, and it ranks first because it is the one San Francisco trusts with its biggest dates.
When it is worn in 2026: twice, both confirmed. Week 10 at the Cowboys on Sunday, November 15, where Dallas wears white at home and leaves the 49ers free to wear color, and Week 17 at home against the Eagles in primetime.

The Bottom Line on the 49ers Jersey Rankings
The 49ers' wardrobe is carried by the 1994 throwbacks, both A- and both worn in national or marquee windows. The scarlet and white primaries are a solid B+, permanent uniforms that San Francisco has correctly refused to redesign, and the 80th anniversary patch gives them something new this season without changing a thing.
The black Rivalries set is the weakest of the five, a C+ with great numbers that hides the best colors in the division under a black shirt. With the throwbacks this good, the 49ers already own the alternate they need.
Frequently Asked Questions
What jerseys do the 49ers have in 2026?
Five: the scarlet home jersey, the white road jersey, the red and white 1994 throwbacks, and the all-black Rivalries uniform. The red throwback is worn twice, the white throwback and the Rivalries set once each, and the primaries cover the rest of the season.
What is the best 49ers jersey?
We rank the red 1994 throwback first with an A-. The scarlet body, white numbers with a black drop shadow and oversized sleeve stripes come straight from the Super Bowl XXIX team.
What jersey are the 49ers wearing this week?
In Week 2, San Francisco hosts the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, September 20, at 4:25 ET, and is projected in the scarlet home jersey with the gold helmet and gold pants. That is our read, not a team announcement. In Week 1 against the Rams in Melbourne, the 49ers wore the gold helmet, white jersey and gold pants.
Do the 49ers have a new jersey in 2026?
No new uniform, but every jersey carries a new patch. The 49ers unveiled an 80th anniversary patch in April, a white "80" with black and gold trim over the SF oval and "EST. 1946", worn on the chest all season. The throwbacks and the Rivalries set are returning looks.
When do the 49ers wear the 1994 throwbacks in 2026?
Three times. The red version is worn at the Cowboys on November 15 (Week 10) and at home against the Eagles in Week 17, and the white version is worn once, at the Chargers on Thursday Night Football in Week 15.
When do the 49ers wear the black Rivalries uniform in 2026?
Once, in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, December 13.
