Arizona published its entire 2026 uniform schedule on September 1, and it is more interesting than the usual red-at-home, white-on-the-road plan. The desert Rivalries jersey comes out once, against Seattle in Week 2 on the team's Hispanic Heritage game day. The black alternate, which we assumed would stay in the closet, gets two home dates. Cardinal red covers seven games, and two of them are on the road, in Dallas and New Orleans. And white covers seven, including one at home against the Jets. The Desert Rivalries Jersey (Week 2 vs. Seahawks)

Arizona wears its Rivalries uniform against Seattle on Sunday, September 20, paired with the team's Hispanic Heritage game day. This is the second season for the set, which Arizona unveiled as part of the program's first wave alongside the rest of the NFC West and the AFC East.

It remains one of the better things the Rivalries program has produced. Where a lot of entries reach for a blackout, Arizona built its around the desert: sand and copper tones against the cardinal red, drawing on the landscape rather than on the usual alternate-uniform playbook. The result actually looks like it comes from Arizona, which is a low bar that most alternate uniforms in the NFL still fail to clear.

Pairing it with the Seahawks is also correct. Seattle is the division rival Arizona has the most history with in that stadium, and putting the uniform in Week 2 rather than saving it for December means it gets a warm-weather afternoon where the copper actually reads on camera. The Black Alternate (Weeks 5 and 12)

We expected the black set to sit out 2026. Instead it gets two home games: the Lions in Week 5 and the Commanders in Week 12, both with the black helmet. The Week 12 game is the one to look at, because Washington has already published white for that trip, so it is a true black-versus-white matchup rather than the muddled black-on-color look that usually sinks this uniform. The Lions game is trickier: Detroit is in the Rivalries program this year, and if they bring their own dark alternate to Glendale, that is a game that will be hard to watch.

Our position on the black jersey has not changed. It is the least Arizona-looking thing the Cardinals own, and two wearings is one more than we would give it. But it is a fair reading of what the team is doing: red, white, black, and the desert set gives them four distinct looks in a nine-game home slate, and two black nights is how you keep the red from feeling like a rerun.

Cardinal Red (7 Games, Including Two on the Road)

The red home jersey gets five home dates, the Broncos in Week 7, the Rams in Week 10, the Eagles in Week 13, the Raiders in Week 17, and the 49ers in Week 18, and two road games. The first is the one we flagged in August: Week 8 at Dallas on Sunday, November 1, where the Cowboys wear white at home and the visitor gets to choose. Arizona chose red. The second is a surprise, Week 16 at New Orleans, where the Saints will be in white and the Cardinals travel in color.

Cardinal red is a genuinely good base and an underrated one, mostly because Arizona has spent a decade doing odd things around it. The 2023 redesign cleaned up the numerals and dropped the piping that used to clutter the shoulders, and what is left is a strong, saturated red that nobody else in the league quite matches. Red on the road in Dallas is the best road look the Cardinals can produce, and it is the game we would circle.

The White Set (7 Games, Including One at Home)

White covers six road games, at the Chargers in Week 1, the 49ers in Week 3, the Giants in Week 4, the Rams in Week 6, the Seahawks in Week 9, and the Chiefs in Week 11, plus one home game: the Jets in Week 15. A December white-out at State Farm Stadium is a small choice, but it forces New York into its green at Arizona, which is the right way round for that matchup. The graphic pairs the white jersey with white pants, and the Week 1 trip to SoFi puts it against the Chargers' powder blue, which we would rank among the better-looking season openers on the calendar.

Week 1 is now confirmed by the team. The Cardinals posted their Gameday Threads graphic on Tuesday: white jersey, white pants, white helmet for the trip to Los Angeles, exactly as the published schedule said. The Chargers are in powder blue at home, so the contrast on the field is the one both teams drew up.

How the Cardinals Rotation Works in 2026

Arizona's 2026 plan is four jerseys across seventeen games: red seven times, white seven times, black twice, and the desert Rivalries set once. It is a real rotation rather than a default, with red taken on the road twice and white brought home once, and it uses the whole closet.

Our one complaint is the same as before. The Rivalries set is the best uniform Arizona owns and it still gets one wearing, while the black alternate gets two. Flip those numbers and this would be one of the better uniform schedules in the league, because the desert uniform does something nothing else in the closet can: it makes the Cardinals look like a team from a specific place.
