We genuinely did not expect to be writing about a Sacramento Kings Christmas jersey. The Kings have not been a Christmas Day team in a very long time, and unless something dramatic happens next season, we are not sure they will be one in 2026 either. But here we are. Nike gave Sacramento a Christmas jersey, and honestly, it is fine.

The Light the Beam Concept

The design is built around the Kings' "Light the Beam" tradition, which started during the 2022-23 season when Sacramento ended the longest playoff drought in NBA history. After every home win, a purple beam of light shoots up from Golden 1 Center into the Sacramento sky. It became a real cultural moment for that fanbase, and Nike ran with it here. The jersey features a purple gradient that rises from the bottom hem up through the torso, fading into the black base. It is a clean concept that actually ties to something meaningful for the franchise.

What Works

The purple is the best part of this jersey. Sacramento's purple has always been one of the more underrated colors in the NBA, and it pops nicely against the black base. The gradient effect is smooth and not overdone, which puts this ahead of some of the other Christmas leaks we have seen from this collection. It is simple. The wordmark is centered, the numbers are clean, and there is not a ton of noise happening. For a Nike Christmas jersey in 2026, simple is actually a compliment.

What Doesn't

The problem is that this jersey does not really do anything special beyond the gradient. It is a black jersey with some purple on it. If you took the Christmas patch off the back, you would have no idea this was meant for December 25th. There is nothing festive about it, nothing that makes you think of the holiday or the occasion. We said this in our Full 2026 NBA Christmas Jersey Rankings and it applies here too. Nike forgot that Christmas jerseys are supposed to feel like an event.

The Bigger Question

Will the Kings even play on Christmas? Sacramento has not been a regular on the Christmas slate, and their roster heading into next season does not exactly scream marquee matchup. Nike making them a Christmas jersey feels more like a league-wide rollout decision than a vote of confidence in the Kings' national TV appeal. That said, if they do get a Christmas game, at least the jersey won't embarrass them.

Overall Grade

Overall Grade
B-
Simple and clean. Purple pops.
But nothing says Christmas.

The Kings' Christmas jersey is not great and not bad. The Light the Beam concept is smart, the purple gradient looks good, and it is one of the cleaner designs in a collection that mostly misses. But it still falls into the same trap as the rest of the 2026 Christmas batch. It does not feel like a Christmas jersey. It feels like a City Edition that happens to have a holiday patch on it. For a team that probably will not even play on December 25th, a B- feels about right.
