On the road it is "WASHINGTON" arched across the chest in block navy trimmed white and red, with tricolour piping down the jersey and pants and the curly W cap. Unlike the home white and the navy, the road set kept its front chest number through the 2024 refresh.

It grades a C+ and edges the whites on that number alone. Same grade, opposite problems: the road gray has the piece the home jersey is missing, and the number does exactly what you would want, filling the chest and making the uniform feel finished. What drags it back down is the wordmark. That block "WASHINGTON" is a stiff, generic treatment with no character in the letterforms at all, the kind of type you would find on any road jersey in any league. The Bottom Line on the Nationals Jersey Rankings

Two things decide this ranking, and neither is the colour scheme. Red, white and navy is a fine palette and Washington has never had a problem with it.
