This is NBC's debut NBA season, and the Peacock scorebug for 2026 is fine but underwhelming. We love the NBC NFL scorebug so much that this NBA version feels like a step down by comparison. It gets the job done, but it does not carry the same weight or polish that you expect from a national broadcast on one of the biggest networks in sports.
The scorebug has a paint-like quality to the team color sections, which is actually a nice basketball touch. It gives the design a slightly textured feel that ties into the sport in a subtle way. That is a creative choice we can appreciate even if the rest of the design does not quite live up to it.
NBC uses team logos in the scorebug, which is always a good call. But they also include three-letter abbreviations like NYK and ATL right next to the logos. That is redundant. If you have the Knicks logo sitting right there, you do not need "NYK" spelled out next to it. It adds visual clutter to a scorebug that would look cleaner without the extra text. Pick one or the other, not both.
There are also these brackets between the score and the team logo that feel like an odd design choice. They do not add any information and they break up the visual flow of the scorebug for no clear reason. It is a small detail, but in broadcast design, small details are what separate good from great.
At the bottom of the scorebug, it reads "NBA Monday" with Peacock branding attached. The branding feels forced into the design rather than integrated into it. The whole package just does not feel grand enough for national television. When you are one of the networks carrying NBA games to a national audience, your broadcast graphics should feel like an event. This scorebug feels more like a regional broadcast that got promoted.
