Tennessee is going all black against Kentucky. Tennessee Football announced on Friday morning, October 30, that it will wear its Dark Mode uniform when No. 16 Tennessee hosts No. 9 Kentucky at Neyland Stadium on Saturday, November 7, at 6:15 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. The Vols are off this week, so the announcement came with a full week to go. It is the first time Tennessee has worn black this season, and the first game in the new adidas version of the uniform.

What Tennessee Is Wearing Against Kentucky
This is the adidas Dark Mode set Tennessee revealed on July 9, when the program launched its new adidas uniforms. Between the team's reveal photos and the two videos, here is every piece:
- Black helmet with the orange Power T on the side and an orange stripe down the middle, with a black facemask.
- Black jersey with orange numbers in the new adidas number font, which Tennessee says combines traditional block numbers with a more modern style.
- A Power T on the front collar, inside a subtle circle, according to Tennessee Athletics. The "I will give my all!" slogan is on the inside of the collar.
- The SEC patch on the right chest and the orange adidas logo on the left.
- Black pants with orange stripes down the side and an orange Power T on the front.
- Black gloves and accessories, including black arm sleeves with the orange Power T.

Is This a New Uniform?
The look is returning, but the uniform is new. Tennessee has worn a Dark Mode set every season since 2021. Those were Nike uniforms. Tennessee moved to adidas this season, and this is the adidas build of the same idea: new number font, a new collar with the Power T in a circle, and the slogan moved inside the collar. The pieces stay the same as the Nike version: black helmet, black jersey with orange numbers, black pants.
Tennessee's Dark Mode History
Tennessee Athletics says Dark Mode jerseys were first worn in 2009 and brought back in 2021. Here is every Dark Mode season since:
- 2009 vs. South Carolina. The first black jerseys, on Halloween night.
- 2021 vs. South Carolina and vs. Georgia. The full black set came back under Josh Heupel. In both games Tennessee wore its regular white helmet with black accents added, not a black helmet.
- 2022 vs. Kentucky. The black helmet debuted, and the all-black look was complete for the first time.
- 2023 vs. South Carolina.
- 2024 vs. Kentucky.
- 2025 vs. Oklahoma. The last game in the Nike version.
- 2026 vs. Kentucky. The first game in the adidas version.
This will be the third time Tennessee has gone to Dark Mode for Kentucky, and the matchup where the all-black look first had a black helmet.
Our Take
Black alternates are everywhere in college football, and most of them are interchangeable. Tennessee's is not, for one reason: the orange. Tennessee orange on black is louder than any other team's accent color on black, and the big orange numbers and the orange Power T on the helmet make this one recognizable from the upper deck. The adidas version keeps what worked and the circle Power T on the collar is a nice small detail. A night game at Neyland against a top-10 rival is the right place to use it.
