The 2026 NHL Heritage Classic jerseys are out. The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens unveiled their outdoor sweaters on Wednesday, October 7, and both teams went back in time. Winnipeg wears a white sweater built on the original Jets look of the 1980s and 1990s. Montreal wears a red sweater with a single blue chest band, a redrawn felt CH and, for the first time ever on a Canadiens jersey, the words "Les Habitants."
Both were designed by Fanatics with the NHL and the two clubs. They get one game: the Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic, Montreal at Winnipeg, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET at Princess Auto Stadium. So it is white against red, outdoors, in late October in Manitoba.
Here is what each team is wearing, and how we grade them.
Jake's Take
The Jets' jerseys are great, A-. The Canadiens ones, wow, I love them too, but they're more simple. They get an A. You can tell they're just different enough, but not so big of a difference that they lose their identity.
The Winnipeg Jets Heritage Classic Jersey
The Jets' Heritage Classic sweater is white, and it is a direct homage to the franchise's look from the 1980s and 1990s. The round vintage crest, with "JETS" across a hockey stick and the plane in the red circle, is cut from felt with chain-stitched detailing. The back numbers get a two-layer felt treatment too. Navy and red stripes run around the arms and the hem, and the same stripes show up on the socks. It is worn with red pants.
A few details you will only catch up close. An all-new streaking jet graphic frames the event name along the hem. The loop label inside the collar carries the jet-in-a-circle mark from the team's pants. And the sweater was made to pair with the navy Heritage alternate the Jets already wear this season, so the throwback look now comes in a dark and a white version.

Jets White Heritage Classic Sweater
Grade: A-. This is a great jersey. The vintage crest is one of the best logos the Jets have ever had, and putting it on a clean white body with navy and red stripes is exactly how it should look. The only reason it lands a notch below Montreal is that the Canadiens did more with less.
The Montreal Canadiens Heritage Classic Jersey
The Canadiens' Heritage Classic sweater is red, with one blue band across the chest and arms trimmed in off-white pinstriping. The trim and the laced collar are a vintage off-white instead of bright white, which gives the whole thing an older feel. The CH has been redrawn to echo past versions of the crest and is cut from felt with running-stitch detailing.
Then come the firsts. "Les Habitants" appears on a Canadiens jersey for the first time, on the back of the collar. The event name at the back hem is written in French and sits next to symbols from the flag of the City of Montreal. A fleur-de-lis loop label nods to Quebec.
We are not running Montreal's product photos here, so here is the sweater straight from the Canadiens:

Canadiens Red Heritage Classic Sweater
Grade: A. We love this one, and it is the simpler of the two. One blue band instead of the usual stripe set, an off-white collar and a redrawn CH make it different enough that you notice right away. But it is not so different that it stops looking like the Canadiens. It keeps its identity, and that balance is what earns the full A.
Jets vs Canadiens: How the Two Sweaters Compare
2026 Heritage Classic Sweaters
Both clubs have been here before. Montreal played in the very first Heritage Classic in Edmonton in 2003 and again in Calgary in 2011. Winnipeg hosted Edmonton in 2016 at the same stadium, then called Investors Group Field, and played Calgary in Regina in 2019. This is the first time the two teams meet in the event.
For more on each team's season, see the Winnipeg Jets 2026-27 uniform schedule and the Canadiens 2026-27 uniform schedule. Every new sweater this season is in our new NHL jerseys for 2026-27 guide, and you can see where both clubs' regular sets land in our best NHL jerseys ranking.
The Bottom Line
The Jets went white with their 1980s and 1990s crest and earn an A-. The Canadiens went red with one blue band, a redrawn CH and "Les Habitants" for the first time, and earn an A for changing just enough without losing who they are. Both get worn once, on Sunday, October 25, at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.
