The big one is Hometown Remix: every one of the 32 teams gets a new special edition jersey from Fanatics this season, built around its city and local culture. Beyond that, the new looks are mostly throwbacks and returning alternates. The Calgary Flames bring back their 2004 Stanley Cup Final sweater, the New York Rangers return the navy shield third, the St. Louis Blues carry five sweaters, and Winnipeg, Utah, Colorado, Dallas and Vegas all have outdoor-game uniforms still to be unveiled. No team has changed its home or road set.

The season opens tonight, Tuesday, September 29, with the Hurricanes raising their Stanley Cup banner against Florida. It is the earliest start in years and the first 84-game schedule since 1993-94, so the uniform calendar is longer than usual too. Hometown Remix: A New Jersey for All 32 Teams

The NHL and Fanatics announced the program on August 19. It is the first 32-team special edition uniform, apparel and headwear program Fanatics has designed since becoming the league's on-ice outfitter in 2024, and the brief is to celebrate the fans, city and local culture of each club. The league said more information would follow shortly after the season begins, which is now.

No team has officially shown its design yet. What clubs have started confirming is how often they will wear it, and the numbers are bigger than a typical one-off special:

• Buffalo Sabres: 8 games, starting November 4 against Ottawa.
• St. Louis Blues: 10 games, starting November 17 against Anaheim.
• Winnipeg Jets: 8 games, starting November 17 against Ottawa.
• Toronto Maple Leafs: nine "Remix Nights," starting November 7 against Montreal.
• Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals have confirmed a Remix jersey is coming, with dates still to be published for Edmonton.

Every NHL Team With Something New for 2026-27

Calgary Flames: The 2004 Throwback Returns

The Flames announced their 2026-27 jersey schedule on September 22 during a preseason game against Vancouver, and the headline is the return of the 2004 home sweater: red, the black Flaming C crest, the flaming horse Blasty on the shoulders, chevron waist striping and a drawstring collar. It is a replica of the red home Calgary wore from 2003-04 through 2006-07, the sweater from the run to Game 7 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Final.

Calgary wears it four times, once against each of its four 2004 playoff opponents: October 24 vs Detroit, December 26 vs Vancouver, December 29 vs San Jose and January 9 vs Tampa Bay. It is the final season at the Saddledome, and the club also confirmed a Hometown Remix jersey. New York Rangers: The Navy Shield Third Is Back

The Rangers confirmed on September 25 that the navy third with the Rangers shield crest returns for four games, all at Madison Square Garden: October 11 vs Vancouver, November 1 vs Edmonton, December 5 vs Colorado and January 17 vs Dallas. The team's own copy calls it a sweater inspired by the city after dark. Last season's light-blue centennial sweater and the Winter Classic white do not return. Rangers uniform schedule.

St. Louis Blues: Five Sweaters in One Season

The Blues published their full sweater schedule today, September 29, and they carry five: the blue home (28 games), the white road (41 road games plus one at home, December 27 against the Rangers), a third that the club describes as the home sweater from the 2018-19 Cup season (3 games: October 29, November 14, March 28), a 1990s retro in blue, yellow and red (2 games: January 3 vs Calgary and January 28 vs Colorado) and the Hometown Remix (10 games). Buffalo Sabres: Goathead 10 Times, Remix 8 Times

Buffalo announced on September 23 that the black-and-red Goathead alternate goes 10 times, down from 15 last season: October 10 vs Utah, November 8 vs Vegas, November 27 vs Pittsburgh, December 26 vs New Jersey, January 14 vs Colorado (Hall of Fame Night), January 21 vs Seattle, February 18 vs Carolina, March 15 vs San Jose, March 25 vs Toronto and April 10 vs Detroit. Winnipeg Jets: Four Sweaters, One Outdoors

The Jets' schedule, reported by The Hockey News today, has four looks: the home (26 games), the Heritage blue alternate (7 games, starting October 7 vs Colorado), the Hometown Remix (8 games) and the Heritage Classic sweater for the outdoor game against Montreal on October 25. Neither the Remix nor the Heritage Classic design had been unveiled when the schedule came out. Jets uniform schedule.

Edmonton Oilers: Oil Country Returns

The Oilers announced on September 28 that the cream Oil Country alternate, introduced last season, goes eight times, including three home games. The club said its Hometown Remix dates will be announced soon. Oilers uniform schedule.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Nine Remix Nights

Toronto was first to put Hometown Remix dates on a calendar, naming nine Remix Nights back in August: November 7 vs Montreal, November 14 vs Edmonton, November 19 vs Los Angeles, November 30 vs Philadelphia, December 13 vs Anaheim, December 19 vs Tampa Bay, January 18 vs St. Louis, February 8 vs Columbus and February 16 vs Carolina. Vegas Golden Knights: Season X, and Steel Grey Steps Back

It is the Golden Knights' 10th season, marked with an X anniversary logo and five Anniversary Knights. The Las Vegas Review-Journal and The Hockey News reported in August that the original steel grey leaves the regular rotation and becomes a throwback, with the Hometown Remix taking the third slot. Vancouver Canucks: A New Sponsor Patch

The only change to a primary sweater anywhere in the league: an RBC patch replaces TD on the Canucks' home jersey under a multi-year deal announced in June. The black Skate alternate is expected back; Vancouver usually publishes its dates in October. Canucks uniform schedule.

Minnesota Wild: A Mystery Fourth Sweater

The Wild's uniform schedule in the team app lists the green home, the white road and the 78s throwback, plus a fourth page that does not load. The Hockey News counted 10 games that none of the three listed sweaters covers, nine at home and one on the road, which is where a Hometown Remix would sit. Wild uniform schedule.

Philadelphia Flyers: Independence Edition Nights

The Flyers' promotional schedule includes 10 Independence Edition home games from November through mid-March, tied to the country's 250th anniversary. Philadelphia has not said which sweater goes with them, and the black alternate was not worn once last season. It is also the Flyers' 60th season. Flyers uniform schedule.

Washington Capitals: Remix Merch Already on the Calendar

The Capitals' promotional schedule already carries Hometown Remix items: a rally towel on November 7 vs Florida, a beanie on December 1 vs Vancouver and an Alex Ovechkin Hometown Remix bobblehead on January 12 vs Vegas. The Screaming Eagle third is designated for three seasons through 2027-28, so it returns. Capitals uniform schedule.

Anniversaries: Kings 60, Flyers 60, Penguins 60, Red Wings 100

• Los Angeles Kings: a 60th anniversary logo (a black 60 with the original silver crown) and a "60 Seasons" ring at center ice. No anniversary patch or throwback sweater has been announced. The black crown alternate from last season is expected back.
• Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins: both 1967 expansion clubs reach season 60 and open against each other on September 30. Neither has announced a patch. Pittsburgh's gold third, signed up for at least three seasons, returns.
• Detroit Red Wings: the Centennial Game against the Boston Bruins on November 18, 100 years to the day after the Detroit Cougars' first NHL game, a 2-0 loss to Boston. Neither team has said what it will wear.

Returning Thirds (Not New, Still Worth Knowing)

These alternates were new last season or earlier and are expected back, with dates still to be published: the Ottawa Senators red, the Seattle Kraken glow-in-the-dark Abyss black, the Chicago Blackhawks 1996-2009 black, the Carolina Hurricanes red and Whalers green (Whalers Night is January 28), the Dallas Stars "The 99" black and the Columbus Blue Jackets cannon third, which the club has not confirmed.

No Changes Announced Beyond Hometown Remix

As of September 29, these clubs have announced nothing new for 2026-27 other than their Remix jersey. Home and road are unchanged:

Outdoor Games and Global Series Jerseys for 2026-27

The NHL has three outdoor games this season. None of the six outdoor sweaters has been unveiled.

• Heritage Classic, Sunday, October 25: Montreal at Winnipeg, Princess Auto Stadium. The first outdoor game of the season and the next uniform reveal to watch, since it is less than four weeks away.
• Winter Classic, Thursday, December 31: Colorado at Utah, Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, the first outdoor NHL game in the state. The logo is out (see our Winter Classic logo history); the commissioner said specialty sweaters are planned. Colorado Hockey Now, citing Icethetics, reported on September 28 that the Avalanche will wear an off-white sweater with burgundy as the main accent. The team has not confirmed it.
• Stadium Series, Saturday, February 20, 2027: Vegas at Dallas, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, on ABC.

The Global Series sends Seattle and Carolina to Helsinki (November 12 and 14) and Chicago and Ottawa to Dusseldorf (December 18 and 20). No special sweaters have been announced for either trip.

What to Watch on Opening Night

Tonight's five games, and what we expect on the ice:

• Panthers at Hurricanes, 5 p.m. ET (ESPN): banner night in Raleigh. Carolina should be in its black home. The NHL does not normally issue a champions patch and none has been announced, so watch the shoulders anyway.
• Rangers at Bruins, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN): Boston's black home from the 2025 rebrand against the Rangers' road white.
• Canadiens at Maple Leafs, 7 p.m. ET (Sportsnet): the two Original Six standards, blue against white.
• Canucks at Oilers, 10 p.m. ET (Sportsnet): Edmonton's royal blue home. Vancouver's new RBC patch is on the home sweater only, so it waits for the Canucks' home opener.
• Blackhawks at Golden Knights, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN): the first home game of Season X. Watch for any anniversary mark on the gold.

Wednesday, the Penguins visit the Flyers to open both clubs' 60th seasons, and the Kings play at Colorado. The next big uniform moment after that is whenever the NHL shows the Hometown Remix designs.
