The 2026-27 NHL season's first full week runs from Wednesday, September 30 through Sunday, October 4, and it is 34 games in five nights. The headline look is in Pittsburgh: the Penguins wear their new 60th anniversary logo on their helmets all season, starting tonight in Philadelphia, and add it as a shoulder patch for the home opener against Montreal on Saturday. Tonight's opener against the Flyers is also season 60 for both 1967 expansion clubs, and the Kings start their own 60th season at Colorado.
Below is every opening-week look we know, the specials first and then all 34 games in order. Confirmed means the team has announced the sweater or the detail. Expected is the NHL default, the dark sweater at home and the white on the road, and it is replaced with what was actually worn on each club's uniform schedule page once the game is played. Every team's full closet and 84-game schedule lives in our NHL uniform schedule hub.
The Opening Week Specials
Pittsburgh Penguins: The 60th Anniversary Logo, Helmets All Season, Shoulders on Saturday
via the Pittsburgh Penguins
Tonight at Philadelphia, 7:30 p.m. ET, and Saturday vs Montreal, 7 p.m. ET. Confirmed. The Penguins announced the logo on September 29. The club calls it retro-inspired: a bold black 60 with the skating penguin in its triangle set inside the loop of the 6, five gold stars for the five Stanley Cups arched over the 0, and gold, white and black stripes for Pittsburgh's Three Rivers. The team says it goes on the players' helmets for every home and road game this season, which means it debuts tonight on the road whites at the Flyers, and it goes on the shoulders of the jerseys for the home opener against the Canadiens on Saturday, October 3, after a pregame ceremony. Those game-worn sweaters are being sold later in the season.
For Saturday, that is the black home with the anniversary mark on the shoulders against Montreal's road white, one of the best color pairings in the league with an extra layer on top. The full rundown, including every 60th anniversary night, is in our Penguins uniform schedule.
Penguins at Flyers: Two Clubs at 60 on Opening Night
Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. ET, TNT. Expected, plus the Penguins' helmet logo. The Flyers and Penguins entered the league together in the 1967 expansion, and they open season 60 against each other at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Philadelphia's home opener giveaway is a T-shirt, and the Flyers have not announced an anniversary logo, patch or sweater, so we expect the burnt orange home against Pittsburgh's road white. The Flyers' ten Independence Edition nights for the country's 250th start in November. Flyers uniform schedule.
Kings at Avalanche: Season 60 for Los Angeles
Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET, TNT. Expected. The Kings' 60th anniversary logo is a black 60 with the original 1967 silver crown, but no patch or anniversary sweater has been announced, so we expect the Kings in road white and Colorado in burgundy for its home opener. One thing to watch: Los Angeles surprise-unveiled its black crown alternate on opening night last season. The Kings' own 60th home opener is Tuesday, October 6 against Florida, with a retro goalie-mask giveaway. Kings uniform schedule and Avalanche uniform schedule.
Vancouver Canucks: The RBC Patch Arrives at Home
Thursday vs Edmonton, 10 p.m. ET. Expected. The only change to a primary sweater anywhere in the NHL this season is the RBC mark replacing TD on the Canucks' home jersey. It is on the home sweater only, so Thursday's home opener against the Oilers is its first regular-season game. Vancouver plays three home games this week, all expected in the navy orca home. Canucks uniform schedule.
Carolina Hurricanes: The Champions' First Week
Carolina raised its Stanley Cup banner on Tuesday against Florida. This week the Hurricanes host Washington on Friday, expected in the black home, and visit Philadelphia on Saturday in white. The NHL does not normally issue a champions patch and none has been announced. Hurricanes uniform schedule.
Washington Capitals: Screaming Eagle Waits Until October 9
The Capitals open Friday at Carolina and Saturday at Tampa Bay, both in road white. The red Screaming Eagle third is reported for 10 home games this season, and the first is October 9 against the Rangers, so it is not on the ice this week. Capitals uniform schedule.

The Bottom Line
NHL opening week is a standard-sets week with an anniversary story on top. The Penguins' new 60th logo goes on their helmets tonight and on their shoulders Saturday, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia open season 60 against each other, the Kings start their own 60th in Denver, Vancouver's RBC patch debuts at home and 20 clubs play their home openers. No third jerseys are scheduled until October 7, and Hometown Remix is still to come. We log what every team actually wears on its 2026-27 uniform schedule page, and every new sweater this season is in New NHL Jerseys 2026-27.
Frequently Asked Questions
What uniforms are NHL teams wearing in opening week 2026?
Standard sets. The NHL default is the dark sweater at home and the white on the road, and no team has scheduled a third jersey between September 30 and October 4. The special details are the Penguins' 60th anniversary logo on their helmets all week and on their shoulders for the October 3 home opener, and the Canucks' new RBC patch on their home sweater.
What is the Penguins' 60th anniversary logo?
A retro-inspired mark with a black 60, the skating penguin set inside the 6, five gold stars for the franchise's five Stanley Cups and gold, white and black stripes for Pittsburgh's Three Rivers. The Penguins wear it on their helmets for every game in 2026-27 and on their jersey shoulders for the home opener against Montreal on October 3.
Are the Flyers wearing a 60th anniversary patch?
Not as of opening night. Philadelphia is celebrating its 60th season with theme nights and giveaways, but the club has not announced an anniversary logo, patch or sweater. We expect the burnt orange home against Pittsburgh on September 30.
When do the Capitals wear the Screaming Eagle jersey in 2026-27?
The red Screaming Eagle third is reported for 10 home games, starting October 9 against the Rangers. It is not worn in opening week, when Washington plays at Carolina and at Tampa Bay in white.
When is my NHL team's home opener?
Carolina, Boston, Toronto, Edmonton and Vegas opened at home on September 29. Philadelphia and Colorado follow on September 30, then New Jersey, the Rangers, Columbus, Nashville, Calgary, Utah, Vancouver and San Jose on October 1, Detroit, Winnipeg and Dallas on October 2, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, the Islanders and Minnesota on October 3, and Anaheim and Seattle on October 4. The Kings open at home October 6 and the Capitals October 7.
When will the NHL Hometown Remix jerseys be revealed?
The league said shortly after the season begins. Teams that have published dates start wearing them in early November, so a reveal in October is the reasonable expectation. We track all 32 on our Hometown Remix tracker.
