The Cleveland Browns are pulling the brown pants back out for the road. On Sunday, October 25, at the Tennessee Titans (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS), Cleveland wears the orange helmet, white jersey and brown pants, a look the team announced on X on Thursday, October 22, with a three-word caption: "new road combo."
It is new for 2026, but it is not new to the franchise. According to the Gridiron Uniform Database's game-by-game logs, the last regular-season game in which the Browns wore white jerseys with brown pants was January 7, 2024, a 31-14 loss at Cincinnati in Week 18 of the 2023 season. That makes Sunday the first time in 40 regular-season games, spanning all of 2024, all of 2025 and the first six weeks of 2026.
What the Browns Are Wearing Sunday
The team's graphic shows every piece: the orange helmet with its center stripe, the white jersey with brown numbers and the brown and orange sleeve stripes, brown pants, white socks with brown and orange stripes, and orange cleats. No alternate helmet, no throwback patch. It is the standard white road jersey with a different pair of pants, which is exactly why it reads so well.
In 2026 so far, Cleveland has worn white jerseys with white pants on the road (Week 1 at Jacksonville, Week 5 at the Jets) and the brown jersey with white pants for the trip to Tampa Bay. At home the Browns have worn the brown jersey with orange pants against Carolina and against Baltimore on Crucial Catch day, plus the all-brown Alpha Dawg set against Pittsburgh. When the Browns Last Wore White Over Brown
The Gridiron Uniform Database logs the Browns in white jerseys and brown pants twice in 2023, both on the road:
- October 29, 2023, at Seattle. A 24-20 loss on the day the Seahawks debuted their 1990s throwbacks. Browns Wire previewed the combo the day before: white jerseys "paired with their brown pants."
- January 7, 2024, at Cincinnati. The 2023 regular-season finale, a 31-14 loss.
Sports Illustrated's Browns site reached the same conclusion in July 2026, writing that the white-over-brown look "hasn't been used since 2023." Since then, the database shows every Browns road game in white with either white or orange pants.
A Modern Look, Not a Classic One
It is easy to assume white over brown is a classic Cleveland look, but the record says otherwise. The Gridiron Uniform Database's Browns history notes the team's white pants went unaltered from 1946 until 1975, and the Browns' own uniform timeline on clevelandbrowns.com dates the first orange pants to that 1975 season. White pants returned in 1984 and carried the team through the 1990s and the 1999 return.
Solid brown pants did not appear until August 18, 2008, in a preseason game at the Meadowlands against the Giants on ESPN, per the Gridiron Uniform Database. The Browns' timeline says the brown pants then became "a fixture with the white jerseys" in 2009, when Cleveland wore them in every white-jersey game. In 2010 the team went back to white pants with the white jersey.

Brown pants came back in 2013, both with the white jersey on the road and for the first all-brown look in team history, a Thursday night game against Buffalo. From there the Gridiron Uniform Database shows the combination as an occasional road option rather than a default:
- 2013: at Green Bay, Cincinnati, New England and the Jets
- 2014: five road games, including the opener at Pittsburgh
- 2015 to 2019: the Nike redesign's brown pants (the 2015 set launched with brown, orange and white pants) worn sparingly with the white jersey
- 2020: at Pittsburgh, Tennessee and the Giants
- 2021: at Minnesota and the Chargers
- 2022: preseason only
- 2023: at Seattle and Cincinnati

So the honest version of "they haven't worn it in years" is close: just under two calendar years and two full seasons.
Our Take
We really like this look, and we give it an A-. The brown pants make the orange helmet pop more than any other road combination Cleveland owns. With white pants, the helmet carries almost all of the color; with brown underneath, the orange has something to play off, and the whole uniform finally looks like the Browns from head to toe. Honestly, we wish Cleveland would go back to it full time on the road. Sunday at Tennessee is a good start.
