Steelers Wear Black Pants With White Jerseys in Paris, a New Uniform Combination for Pittsburgh

The Steelers are changing their pants for Paris. Against the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France on Sunday, October 25 (9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network), Pittsburgh wears the black helmet, white jersey and black pants, with black socks in the team's photos. The team posted the look on Saturday morning with two words: "Tomorrow's kit."

Steelers.com calls it "a new combination", and tight end Darnell Washington told the team site, "it's unique for us to wear." The team's own countdown post put it plainly: "aaand with a new uni combo." Pittsburgh almost never mixes and matches, so a pants swap is real news.

The Paris Look, Piece by Piece

  • Helmet: the standard black shell with the Steelers logo on one side, unchanged.
  • Jersey: the white road jersey with black numbers and the gold and black sleeve stripes.
  • Pants: black, with a gold stripe down each leg. Steelers.com describes them as the team's black Color Rush pants.
  • Socks: black, in the team's photos.
  • Patch: the team's photos show a shield-shaped NFL Paris patch on the chest, opposite the Steelers logo.

New Orleans is the designated home team, which is why Pittsburgh is in white at all. The Saints published their black home jersey with the gold helmet for this game back on September 7. Their pants have not been announced; they have gone with black in both black home games so far. Everything else about the game is in our Paris game uniform guide.

What the Steelers Usually Wear on the Road

The normal road set is white over gold pants, under the black helmet. That is exactly what Pittsburgh wore at Cleveland in Week 4 this season, with black socks, and at New England in Week 2.

The gold pants go with the black home jersey too, one pair of pants for both primary sets.

A Short History of Steelers Pants

  • 1968 onward: gold. The modern design, as the uniform history on Wikipedia summarizes it, is gold pants with either the black or the white jersey.
  • 1970 and 1971: white. For those two seasons the Steelers paired white pants with their white jerseys.
  • 2007 to 2011: white, striped. The throwback set of that era came with white pants and a single gold stripe down each leg.
  • 2016: black. The Color Rush uniform introduced black pants with a thick gold stripe, the reverse of the usual gold pants. It debuted on Christmas against Baltimore, as an all-black look.
  • 2025: beige. The 1933 throwback came with beige pants under the gold helmet.

So the black pants are not new. Wearing them under the white jersey is.

Is It the First Time in Team History?

The team's word is "new," in both its X post and on Steelers.com, and the published history of the team's pants above shows no earlier white-over-black set. A SteelersNOW report carried by Pittsburgh's WPXI calls it "never-before-worn." But neither the team nor the NFL has said "first time in franchise history" in so many words, so we describe it as what the sources support: a combination the Steelers have rarely, if ever, worn. If the team confirms it, we will update this story.

Our Take

We give it a B-. It's a new look for a big game, and the gold stripe down the black pants keeps the team's colors in it. But we prefer the Steelers in gold pants. White over gold is one of the cleanest road looks in the league, and the black pants make this one heavier and darker without making it better. Fun for one game in Paris; we'd keep the gold pants the rest of the way.

Also this week: the Browns' brown-pants look, which we like a lot more.

Have the Steelers ever worn black pants with white jerseys before?

Steelers.com calls it "a new combination," and the published history of the team's pants shows no earlier white jersey with black pants. The team has not used the words "first time in franchise history," so we call it a combination the Steelers have rarely, if ever, worn.

They are the black Color Rush pants, black with a gold stripe, first worn with the all-black Color Rush uniform on Christmas 2016 against Baltimore.

Will the Steelers wear the Color Rush uniform this season?

We have the full all-black Color Rush for Week 13, Sunday night against Houston on December 6. That is our projection, not a team announcement. The full season is in our Steelers 2026 uniform schedule.

The Bottom Line

For the first NFL game in France, the most conservative wardrobe in the league tries something it calls new: white over black. Every other Week 7 look is in our NFL Week 7 uniforms guide, and we will log what Pittsburgh actually wears in the NFL uniform tracker after kickoff.
