Baseball goes back to the corn on August 13. After a three-year gap, MLB at Field of Dreams returns to Dyersville, Iowa, with the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins, and this one streams live on Netflix.
We care about this game for one reason above all the others, which is that it produces uniforms teams would never otherwise build. Both clubs have now unveiled what they are wearing, and one of them is the best throwback either franchise has put on a field. Here is everything worth knowing, starting with the part we actually grade.
The Uniforms
Philadelphia wears its 1939 to 1941 road set, and it is the deepest cut in the entire history of this game. The red "Phillies" script slants up across the chest with a navy outline, red and navy striping runs the collar, sleeves, and placket, and the cap carries a bold red P in period lettering. The detail that makes it is the sleeve patch, a replica of the mark the Phillies wore in 1939 for what was then believed to be baseball's 100th anniversary. It is a uniform commemorating a commemoration, and it is anchored to a real dated event rather than a vague sense of oldness.
Minnesota wears 1961, its first season in Minnesota. It is a white home jersey with navy pinstripes and no trim, a navy "Twins" script outlined in red, and the tail of the "s" curling back to underline the wordmark, which is the best detail on the jersey. The sleeve carries the Minnie and Paul patch, created in 1961 and worn on Twins home uniforms through 1986. That makes it the team wearing its own history rather than dressing up as somebody else's. It is a safer swing than Philadelphia's, and it is a good deal better than the leaked retail-rack photos made it look.
We graded both in full in our complete breakdown of the 2026 Field of Dreams uniforms: the Phillies took an A-, the Twins a B. And because six of these uniforms now exist across three games, we ranked every Field of Dreams uniform ever worn, where Philadelphia's 1939 set lands at number one and the 1919 White Sox throwback everyone remembers turns out to be overrated.
If you want the wider context on why Philadelphia keeps winning at this, our Phillies throwback playbook covers the powder blues, the cream alternate, and the red pinstripes alongside the 1939 set.
Between now and August 13 the Phillies are still running their normal five-jersey rotation, and it is the most tightly scheduled closet in baseball. The Phillies uniform schedule maps which look comes out on which day, and the Phillies uniform calendar shows every jersey they have actually worn this season, game by game, so you can see how rare a one-night throwback like this really is.
If it is the Phillies jersey you came for, we broke that one down on its own: every detail of the 1939 throwback, patch included.
The Details
Matchup: Philadelphia Phillies at Minnesota Twins
Date: Thursday, August 13, 2026
First pitch: 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT
Site: Field of Dreams, Dyersville, Iowa
Broadcast: Netflix
Minnesota is the home team, which is why Philadelphia is in a road set and the Twins are in home pinstripes. The ballpark beside the movie site holds roughly 8,000 people, which is why tickets are what they are. Resale has been running well north of a thousand dollars a seat, so for almost everybody this is a Netflix game.
Why There Was No Game From 2023 to 2025
The game ran in 2021 and 2022, then stopped. MLB paused it while a larger development project went up around the movie site, including a youth complex and permanent facilities, and the 2026 edition is the first one back. That gap is part of why this year's uniforms matter more than usual. Two clubs get the stage after three years of nobody having it.
The Matchup
The Twins host, the Phillies visit, and the uniform contrast is the appeal. Philadelphia's 1939 road grays against Minnesota's 1961 home pinstripes is a genuine period frame, two real throwbacks facing each other rather than one team dressing up while the other wears its normal clothes. That is the version of this game that works, and it is what the 2021 and 2022 editions got right too.
We log what all 30 clubs wear every single day in our MLB daily uniform tracker, and this one goes in the moment it happens.
The Bottom Line on the 2026 Field of Dreams Game
The reason to care is the clothes. A regular season game between the Phillies and Twins is a Thursday, but a Phillies team in a 1939 road set with a 100th-anniversary sleeve patch, against a Twins club in 1961 pinstripes with the Minnie and Paul patch on the sleeve, in a cornfield, on Netflix, is the only night all season that looks like this.
Philadelphia is bringing the best uniform in the history of the event. That is worth 7:30 on a Thursday.
Next up: MLB has already set the 2027 game, Royals against Red Sox on August 12, 2027, and Kansas City has posted its 1969 throwback jersey a year early. We broke down both 2027 Field of Dreams uniforms here.
