There are five ways to watch the NFL on national TV in 2026: Sunday Night Football on NBC, Fox and CBS on Sunday afternoons, Thursday Night Football on Prime Video and Monday Night Football on ESPN and ABC. We ranked every one of them, and one of the biggest names in sports TV finishes last.
This is not just an announcer ranking. We graded the whole broadcast: the theme music and the open, the overall vibe and presentation, the scorebug and graphics package, and the booth. Basically, how each one feels when you turn it on. We are counting down from No. 5 to No. 1, with a 2026 scorebug screenshot for every network.
5. Monday Night Football on ESPN and ABC
ESPN NFL scorebug via ESPN (Eagles at Bears, Week 3, 2026)
The vibe: Monday Night Football is supposed to be the big game of the week, the one standalone game on a weeknight with the whole country watching. On ESPN it does not feel that way. The presentation leans on bits and add-ons instead of making the game itself feel like the main event, and the result feels smaller than the name on the broadcast.
The scorebug: ESPN soft-launched a brand new NFL graphics package and scorebug during a Raiders vs. Texans preseason game on August 20. It is a long, flat bar with the team logos at each end on team color, and ESPN says it will keep changing through the season on the way to Super Bowl LXI in February 2027, ESPN's first Super Bowl. Right now it reads like a work in progress.
The booth: Joe Buck on play-by-play and Troy Aikman as the analyst, with Lisa Salters and Laura Rutledge on the sidelines. Buck and Aikman are in their 25th season together, going back to their Fox days. The booth is good. It is the rest of the broadcast that holds it back.
Jake's Take
Monday Night Football just isn't good at airing games. It doesn't feel as big. It feels cringy, gimmicky and cheap.

4. Thursday Night Football on Prime Video
Prime Video NFL scorebug via Prime Video (Steelers at Browns, Week 4, 2026)
The vibe: No broadcast has improved more. Thursday Night Football used to feel like an afterthought, and in its fifth season on Prime Video it looks and feels like a real primetime show. The presentation is clean and confident, and it no longer feels like a step down from Sunday.
The scorebug: Prime's bug uses team logos instead of abbreviations, with the TNF mark, down and distance, clock and play clock stacked in the middle. The timeout markers are built into the shape of the bug itself. It is one of the cleanest bugs in the league.
The booth: Al Michaels on play-by-play and Kirk Herbstreit as the analyst, with Kaylee Hartung on the sideline. Prime opened its fifth season of Thursday Night Football with Lions at Bills on September 17. Herbstreit reportedly signed an extension with Prime at the end of September.
Jake's Take
Thursday Night Football has taken a massive leap. Their presentation on Prime, their scorebug and their vibe are really good.

3. NFL on CBS
CBS NFL scorebug via CBS Sports (Cardinals at Giants, Week 4, 2026)
The vibe: CBS does the same job as Fox on Sunday afternoons, and it does it fine. The problem is that Fox does it better. The CBS presentation is solid and familiar, but it does not have the same energy or the same feel of a big Sunday.
The scorebug: CBS rebuilt its scorebug for the 2025 season and debuted it in Week 1 on September 7, 2025. It is bigger than the old one, with a larger score font, team color blocks on each side and no network branding inside the bug. It is easy to read, but it is a box where Fox's bug feels lighter.
The booth: Jim Nantz on play-by-play with J.J. Watt as the lead analyst and Tracy Wolfson on the sideline. Watt moved into the No. 1 chair when Tony Romo was put on leave before the season, and CBS announced on October 2 that Romo is not coming back. The other CBS crews include Ian Eagle with Ross Tucker and Kevin Harlan with Trent Green.
Jake's Take
CBS is just a worse version of Fox.

2. NFL on Fox
Fox NFL scorebug via Fox Sports (Packers at Buccaneers, Week 4, 2026)
The vibe: Fox feels like Sunday afternoon football. The theme, the open and the overall presentation all have energy, and the broadcast feels like the big national window even when it is a regional game. It is the closest thing to Sunday Night Football without the primetime slot.
The scorebug: Fox's current bug grew out of the minimal design it debuted at Super Bowl LIX in February 2025, which fans hated. For the 2025 season Fox swapped the team abbreviations for team logos, moved the timeouts under each score and dropped the team color backgrounds. The numbers and logos float on the screen with no box behind them, and it works.
The booth: Kevin Burkhardt on play-by-play and Tom Brady as the analyst, now in their third season together, with Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi on the sidelines. Fox's No. 2 crew is Joe Davis with Greg Olsen.
Jake's Take
Fox has a really good vibe, theme and scorebug too.

1. Sunday Night Football on NBC
NBC NFL scorebug via NBC Sports (Cowboys at Giants, Week 1, 2026)
The theme and the vibe: Nobody opens a game like Sunday Night Football. Carrie Underwood is in her 14th straight season singing the theme, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," which is a reworked version of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You." The 2026 open leans into rock and takes her from a small club to a full stadium, and it debuted on September 13 with Cowboys at Giants. NBC says Sunday Night Football has been the top-rated show on broadcast TV for the last 15 years, and it feels like it every week.
The scorebug: NBC introduced its current scorebar on January 11, 2026, for the Patriots vs. Chargers Wild Card game, as a warm-up for Super Bowl LX. It kept the round clock with the peacock in the center, moved the timeouts below the scores and gave the end pieces longer, curved edges. It looks big and polished without getting in the way.
The booth: Mike Tirico on play-by-play in his fifth season on Sunday Night Football, and Cris Collinsworth as the analyst in his 18th. Melissa Stark is on the sideline and former referee Terry McAulay is the rules analyst.
Jake's Take
Sunday Night Football just has the best theme song, the best overall vibe, and the best scorebug.
