Our first take: this is the interesting one. The silver shade genuinely works, a richer base than a standard white that gives the whole set some texture, and the carbon-fiber numbers are a clever way to do "Motor City" without writing it out. The helmet is a real upgrade on the flat blue alternate shells Detroit has run in recent seasons, though it still does not touch the classic silver primary. The honest knock is on the jersey itself: strip away the carbon fill and what is left is a white shirt with black shoulder wedges and blue trim, which is a silhouette Carolina already owns, and none of the Detroit-specific ideas live above the waist where the camera actually sits.

Fifth in the 2026 class. The slot itself is well chosen. Rivalries uniforms are meant to be worn against the specific rival they were built around, and Lions-Vikings has become the most consequential game in the division. Putting it in the 1:00 window on a Sunday rather than burying it in a late-season primetime slot also means it gets the full national doubleheader lead-in audience.

The Wrinkle: Detroit and Minnesota Both Debut, in Different Games

The NFC North produces two separate Rivalries games this year between the same two teams, and neither club wears its set in the other's game.

Detroit debuts at Ford Field in Week 8 on November 1. Minnesota debuts its own set at home against the Lions in Week 15 on December 20. So the Lions are in white at U.S. Bank Stadium in December while the Vikings unveil theirs, and the Vikings are in white at Ford Field in November while Detroit unveils. The blue jersey is the base of everything and draws five home dates: the Saints in Week 1, the Jets in Week 3, New England in Munich in Week 10, the Bears on Thanksgiving in Week 12, and the Titans in Week 14. The Rivalries game and the three black alternate games take the rest.

Honolulu blue is the most distinctive base color in the NFC and Detroit finally treats it that way. The 2024 rebrand cleaned up the numbers, dropped the black from the primary set, and let the blue and silver carry the uniform the way they did in the 1950s. It is the rare modern redesign that made a team look older rather than newer, which is exactly what it needed.

White on the Road (7 Games)

Weeks 2, 4, 5, 13, 15, 17 and 18. Same uniform, values flipped, blue numbers on white with the silver helmet unchanged.

Week 2 is confirmed and it is the full all-white version, white jersey with white pants, the road look Lions fans call the Marshmallows. Detroit announced it on September 17 for Thursday night at Buffalo, which is the first regular season game at the new Highmark Stadium. The Bills are in the blue primary with an inaugural season patch, so there is plenty of contrast.

Honolulu Blue in Miami (Week 9)

The Week 2 Thursday nighter at Buffalo is the pick of them, and the Week 15 trip to Minnesota matters for the reason above. Detroit will be in white for the Vikings' Rivalries unveiling.

The Munich Game Is a Lions Home Game (Week 10)

This is the detail most schedule pages get wrong, so it is worth stating plainly. Detroit plays New England at Allianz Arena in Munich on Sunday, November 15, and the Lions are the designated home team. NFL.com lists the game as Patriots at Lions.

That matters for what you see on the field. Detroit wears Honolulu blue, New England wears white, and the Lions get the home designation despite being nearly four thousand miles from Ford Field. Several club schedule widgets show the game as "vs" for both teams, which is why it gets miscounted; the league's own listing is the tiebreaker.

It is also the only international game on Detroit's calendar, and it drops the Lions into the 9:30 a.m. Eastern window, which is the largest single-game audience the NFL produces outside primetime.

Thanksgiving (Week 12, vs the Bears)

Detroit hosts Chicago on Thursday, November 26, which is the game the franchise is known for more than any other. The Lions will be in Honolulu blue and the Bears in white, per our Bears 2026 uniform schedule.

There is no throwback announced for it. Detroit has worn a variety of alternates on Thanksgiving over the years, including the much-argued-about grey set, but nothing has been scheduled for 2026 and we are not putting one on the grid on a hunch.
