Every Tampa Bay Rays Jersey in 2026, Ranked: The Navy Wins and the Powder Blue Is One Wordmark Away From Greatness

ColorWay Sports·

The Rays run one of the most colour-soaked closets in baseball and, unusually, no road gray at all. Since 2023 Tampa Bay has travelled in its coloured alternates instead, which means every jersey here is doing real work rather than filling a slot. Only one jersey here really misses, and nothing quite reaches an A either. In two cases a single design decision is the only thing standing in the way. Here is every Tampa Bay Rays jersey and uniform for 2026, ranked worst to first and graded.

5. "Grit x Glow" City Connect

ColorWay Sports Grade
C+

Unveiled in 2024 and one of the most divisive entries in the whole program. The base is black deliberately faded toward gray, as though left out in the Florida sun, with "Tampa Bay" across the chest in grip-tape-textured Thrasher-style skate lettering outlined in neon — the city's name on a Rays jersey for the first time since 2007. A gradient stripe reimagines the old Devil Rays rainbow, running asymmetrically from the right sleeve down the left side of the pants. The cap fuses a stingray with the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and there are hidden nods to the Bro Bowl skate park and the St. Petersburg Pelicans of the Negro Leagues.

It grades a C+, the lowest mark in this closet, and it is the most likeable jersey we have put at the bottom of a list. We have graded a lot of black City Connects and most fail identically, with the base swallowing whatever colour the concept was built on. This one at least fights back: the neon outlining survives, the asymmetric rainbow stripe is a smart callback, and the sun-faded grey wash gives the black some texture instead of flat darkness. The research is real, the local detail is genuine, and it is recognisably Tampa Bay rather than a generic blackout. What drags it down is volume. Grip-tape lettering, neon outlines, a gradient stripe running off-axis across jersey and pants, a stingray-and-bridge cap, plus buried nods to a skate park and a Negro leagues club, all on one uniform. Every idea is defensible and there are far too many of them competing at once. Divisive is not the same as bad, but busy still costs you.

4. Home Whites

ColorWay Sports Grade
B-

The home white is the anchor of the modern brand: "Rays" arched across the chest in navy with the yellow sunburst bursting off the "R," navy piping, and the navy cap with the white "TB." It covers most home dates that the Friday throwback and Saturday City Connect do not claim.

It grades a B-, and we will be honest about why it clears that bar. The sunburst wordmark arrived when the franchise dropped "Devil" from its name for 2008, and 2008 is the whole association: Longoria, the worst-to-first run, the pennant, the World Series against the Phillies. For anyone who watched that team, this jersey is that team. Judged purely as a design in 2026 it is the plainest thing in a closet full of colour, a clean but unremarkable white shirt in a wardrobe that is otherwise unafraid. It is carried by memory more than by anything on the fabric, and that is a perfectly good reason to like a uniform. It just is not enough to beat the three above it.

3. Devil Rays "Rainbow" Throwback

ColorWay Sports Grade
B+

The 1998 Devil Rays throwback, with the purple-to-green-to-yellow gradient wordmark from the franchise's debut season. It has been the Friday home look since 2023 and also comes out on Opening Day, and it draws the loudest reaction of anything the Rays wear at the Trop.

It grades a B+, level with the two alternates above it, and it is the most purely enjoyable thing Tampa Bay wears. Turning a nostalgia jersey into a standing weekly event was smart scheduling, and the purple-to-green-to-yellow gradient is unlike anything else in the sport, which counts for an enormous amount in a league of navy and red. It sits third on the tie only because it is a period piece rather than a working uniform. The rainbow belongs to the franchise's least successful era and is beloved for being odd as much as for being well designed, and wearing it every Friday slowly turns an event into a rotation piece. Brilliant fun, correctly scheduled, and the one jersey here that could not carry a full season on its own.

2. Columbia Blue Alternate

ColorWay Sports Grade
B+

The Columbia blue is the softest and most distinctive colour in the closet, a genuine point of difference in a league saturated with navy and red. Since a 2022 tweak it wears the standalone sunburst logo on the right chest instead of a wordmark across the front. No fixed day, home or road, and it pairs with gray pants on the trip.

It grades a B+, and it is the jersey with the clearest path to being the best in the wardrobe. That light blue is lovely and almost nobody else in baseball is using it. The problem is the chest, and it is entirely self-inflicted. Dropping the wordmark for a small sunburst on the right breast leaves the front of the jersey essentially blank, and a pale base makes that emptiness more obvious, not less. It was a modern, minimal instinct that gave away the one thing that identifies the team. Put the sunburst "Rays" wordmark back across this chest and it is an easy A-, probably the best light-blue uniform in the sport. As it stands it is a gorgeous colour wearing almost nothing.

1. Navy Alternate

ColorWay Sports Grade
B+

The navy is the dark-tops workhorse: a deep navy base with Columbia blue piping, white lettering and outlined numbers, worn at home and on the road with no day-of-week rule. Since Tampa Bay abandoned the traditional road gray in 2023, the navy over gray pants has become one of its default travelling looks.

It grades a B+ and takes the top spot, which is a slightly unglamorous result for a closet with a rainbow throwback and a skate-themed City Connect in it. The navy wins because it is the only jersey here with nothing wrong with it. The base is strong, the Columbia blue piping ties it to the best colour the team owns, the lettering is present and legible, and it works equally well at home and on the trip, which nothing else in this wardrobe can claim. It is doing the job the missing road gray used to do while looking considerably better than a road gray would. No gimmick, no missing wordmark, no nostalgia required. Just the most complete uniform Tampa Bay puts on the field.

The Bottom Line on the Rays Jersey Rankings

This is one of the tightest closets in the American League, with three jerseys tied at the top and only one real miss, which makes it frustrating rather than disappointing. Almost every uniform here is one decision away from being better than it is.

The Columbia blue is the clearest case. It is the best colour Tampa Bay owns and the most distinctive light blue in baseball, and it is wearing nothing on the chest because somebody decided a small sunburst on the right breast was a more modern look. Put the wordmark back and it wins this list outright.

The throwback ties them both on grade and is the most enjoyable thing Tampa Bay wears, held back only by being a period piece rather than a working uniform. The home white is carried almost entirely by 2008. And the City Connect, likeable as it is, ends up last by piling six good ideas onto one jersey.

Which leaves the navy on top by default, and by merit. It is the only jersey in this wardrobe with nothing missing from it. In a closet this bold, the most complete uniform turned out to be the quietest one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Rays jersey for 2026?

We rank the navy alternate No. 1 with a B+. It is the only uniform in the closet with no flaw to point at: strong base, Columbia blue piping, legible lettering, and it works at home and on the road. The Columbia blue alternate is second and the Devil Rays throwback third, both also at B+.

How many uniforms do the Rays have in 2026?

Five: the home whites, the Columbia blue alternate, the navy alternate, the 1998 Devil Rays "rainbow" throwback, and the "Grit x Glow" City Connect. Notably, they do not carry a traditional road gray.

Why don't the Rays wear road grays?

Tampa Bay stopped using a traditional gray road jersey in 2023 and now travels in its coloured alternates instead, most often the navy over gray pants. It is one of the few clubs in baseball with no gray top in the rotation at all.

When do the Rays wear the Devil Rays throwback?

Most Friday home games, a standing slot since 2023, plus Opening Day. The 1998 rainbow set is the jersey that draws the loudest reaction at Tropicana Field.

What is the Rays City Connect uniform?

"Grit x Glow," unveiled in 2024. A sun-faded black base with "Tampa Bay" in grip-tape-textured skate lettering outlined in neon, an asymmetric gradient stripe reworking the old Devil Rays rainbow, and a cap fusing a stingray with the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. It anchors most Saturday home games. We grade it a C+, the lowest mark in the closet, not for lack of ideas but for having too many of them on one uniform.
