The Texans went from what we considered the worst look in the NFL to a respectable closet built on Deep Steel Blue, Liberty White and Battle Red, with horn-shaped shoulder stripes and numbers that finally read from a distance. In 2026 they add a fifth look, the HOUSTON/US Rivalries uniform, with the first white helmet in franchise history.

Here is every Houston Texans jersey and uniform for 2026, ranked worst to first and graded, with the helmet and pants each one pairs with and the weeks it is on the field.

5. H-Town Blue Alternate

The H-Town Blue alternate is the second navy jersey in the closet, and that is its biggest problem. It swaps the TEXANS chest wordmark for "H-TOWN" in light blue, turns the numbers red with a light blue outline, and puts a red collar with HOUSTON on the inside. The light blue is the most interesting color Houston has, and it is good to see it on the field.

The execution works against it. Red numbers on a near-black navy lose contrast, so the thing a football jersey most needs to do, read the number from the upper deck, is the thing this one does worst. And because the body is the same navy as the home jersey, it never feels like a different uniform so much as a recolored one. The light blue deserves a bigger role than an outline.

It has not been retired. It came in with the 2024 redesign, and Houston wore it twice last season, against the 49ers in October and again in the 2025 regular-season finale. When it is worn in 2026: not scheduled yet. Houston's announced uniform dates for 2026 are Liberty White, Battle Red and the Rivalries debut, so there is no helmet or pants pairing to report. 4. Deep Steel Blue Home

The Deep Steel Blue home jersey is the base of the rebrand and the set we graded a B- in our ranking of every NFL uniform, where we named Houston the most improved team in the league. The white numbers with a red outline pop far better than the old set, the red TEXANS wordmark sits cleanly above them, the bullhead is on the sleeve, and the near-black navy works.

What keeps it in the B range is that it does not look like anyone in particular. A dark jersey with red trim describes half the league, and nothing on this one, not the stripe, not the numbers, tells you it is Houston from across the room. Improved, not arrived.

It pairs with the navy helmet and the bullhead logo, and white pants are our read for the home dates.

When it is worn in 2026: four projected home games, in Weeks 2 (Bengals), 12 (Ravens, Salute to Service), 15 (Jaguars) and 18 (Titans). None of those dates has a jersey named by the team, so they follow the standard home rule.

3. Liberty White

Liberty White is the cleanest thing Houston owns. HOUSTON runs across the chest in red, the navy numbers carry a red outline, and the navy and red horn-shaped stripes sweep over the shoulders without crowding anything. On white, the horn stripe finally reads as a deliberate shape rather than dark trim on a dark body, which is why this set outranks the navy.

We saw it on the field in Week 1. Houston opened at NRG Stadium against Buffalo in the navy helmet, white jersey and white pants, and white over white let the navy shell carry the color. The matchup graded a B on our NFL uniform tracker, and Buffalo won 36-31.

The reason it stops at a B is that it is the quiet set. It does its job without giving Houston anything the rest of the league does not have.

When it is worn in 2026: Week 1 vs. Bills on September 13 (worn), plus white in Week 4 at home against Dallas on October 4, since the Cowboys confirmed navy, and on all nine road trips: Weeks 3 (at Colts), 5 (at Titans), 6 (vs. Jaguars at Wembley, October 18, with Jacksonville as the home team), 9 (at Chargers), 10 (at Browns), 13 (at Steelers), 14 (at Commanders), 16 (at Eagles) and 17 (at Packers). Only Week 1 is team-confirmed. Houston has not said whether the Week 4 and road games use this exact set.

2. HOUSTON/US Rivalries Uniform

The new-for-2026 Rivalries set, revealed August 25 under the name HOUSTON/US and the tagline "By the H. For the H.," is the most complete piece of city-specific design in the program. Liberty White is the base, H-Town Blue and Battle Red do the accent work, and the blue-and-white street-tile mosaics seen all over Houston run through the sleeve stripes, the nameplate and the numbers. The numbers themselves take their shape from the "Be Someone" bridge, and the bullhead sits on the chest.

It pairs with white pants and the first white helmet in Texans history, a tribute to the white prototype Robert C. McNair held up in 1999, with a tiled red-and-blue center stripe, an H-TOWN bumper, and a chrome blue facemask that is the best in the entire Rivalries class.

We graded it a B, and it finished third of sixteen in our Rivalries ranking. One decision keeps it from an A: that once-ever white shell carries the gothic H-Town "H" instead of the bullhead, which on white would have been instantly iconic. It ranks second here, ahead of Liberty White at the same grade, because the palette and the tile work give Houston something nobody else has.

When it is worn in 2026: once, in Week 11 against the Colts on Thursday, November 19, on Thursday Night Football at NRG Stadium. It stays in the rotation for three seasons.

1. Battle Red

Battle Red is the uniform that gives the Texans an identity. The red body carries a white TEXANS wordmark, navy numbers outlined in white, and the navy horn-shaped shoulder stripes with a red inner line. Where the navy home set blends into a league full of dark jerseys, a bright red Houston jersey looks like nobody else, and the navy numbers with a white edge still read cleanly against it.

The staging makes it better. The Battle Red game is a Texans tradition going back to 2003, the crowd is asked to wear red, and a full stadium matching the team is the kind of coordinated look most clubs talk about and few pull off. Houston has a red Battle Red helmet in its lineup, which it pointed to in its Week 1 game-week graphic before wearing navy, but the team has not named the Week 7 helmet or pants.

Our one complaint is frequency. One Battle Red game against four projected navy games is backwards for a team whose red uniform is the one people actually want to see.

The Texans closet is a genuine improvement with a clear order to it. Battle Red is the best thing they own at a B+, the new HOUSTON/US Rivalries set and Liberty White both earn a B, and the everyday Deep Steel Blue sits at a B-. The weak spot is the H-Town Blue alternate, a C+ that repeats the navy body and hides the best accent color in the palette inside a number outline.

The fix is mostly scheduling. Houston already owns a red uniform people want to see and a light blue that looks like the city. Put Battle Red on the field more than once and give H-Town Blue a bigger job, and this closet moves from improved to arrived.
