The headline is that red, blue and yellow are back together across the wardrobe for the first time in a while, and that alone earns the season a lot of goodwill here. The Home Shirt: A-

Red body, crisp white sleeves, a bespoke crewneck collar and faint red patterning across the body that references the Emirates rooflines, marking twenty years at the stadium.

The detail that makes it is the striping at the top of the sleeve, and the way the darker red plays against the lighter red gives this shirt a depth that most red kits never find. ESPN ranked it 21st of every Premier League shirt and noted that the stadium references are almost impossible to actually spot, which is fair, but the colour work is doing the heavy lifting anyway.

The one thing we would change: some blue somewhere. Arsenal's blue is one of the best secondary colours in the sport and there is none of it here.

What we like most is that all three Arsenal colours are in play. A navy base with yellow on it, worn by a club whose primary is red, is the kind of thing that only works if the club has real history with those colours, and Arsenal do. Last season's away blue edges this one for us on the colour alone, but this is a strong shirt and a smart use of the archive.

Arsenal in yellow as a change kit is one of the genuinely great looks in football and it has been away too long, so getting all three colours into a single shirt is the correct decision. Our only reservation is the shade of yellow itself, which is not quite the one we were hoping for. A slightly deeper, older gold would have landed harder.
