The shade of red is the best thing about it. Liverpool have drifted between reds over the years and this is the deep, slightly darker version that photographs properly under floodlights. The geometric graphic sits underneath it as texture rather than decoration, which is the correct call for a pattern this recognisable.
It also helps that the reference is to a specific shirt with a specific meaning rather than a vague gesture at the archive. Everyone who cares knows what the Candy kit is.

The match-ticket detail is the best story of any away shirt this season. Someone went into the archive, found the shield crests printed on 1970s Anfield tickets, and turned them into an all-over pattern. That is proper work.
The shirt itself is clean and a little boring, which is also what Liverpool usually do with their white one. The Trefoil is a nice touch, part of the wider retro adidas revival across 2026/27. It is a good shirt that does not quite excite.

What Does Liverpool's 2026/27 Third Kit Look Like?
A black base carrying an abstract maroon graphic across the front and sleeves, drawn from the waving flags on the Kop. The branding is monochrome silver throughout, the adidas stripes on the shoulders, the Liver Bird crest and the Standard Chartered mark, with the 97 Hillsborough memorial emblem inside the back collar. Black shorts and black socks complete it.
The flag reference is the part worth having. It is a supporter detail rather than an archive detail, and taking the Kop itself as the source material is a better idea than another decade pulled off a shelf. Running every logo in silver is the correct restraint too, because red or white branding would have fought the maroon.
What holds it back is that it never quite gets loud. Maroon on black is a low-contrast pairing that reads almost as texture at broadcast distance, so a graphic built on something as visually noisy as a flag wall ends up looking calm. It is nice, and it is a bit boring, and the third slot is the one place a club has permission to take a real swing.
Liverpool finally launched it through the club on August 27, a fortnight after the original date and alongside the club's new online store, so the provisional tag comes off and the grade goes into our European ranking as is. Seeing the finished shirt on players rather than in leaks did not move us: the maroon graphic is bolder in the flesh than the early images suggested, but the verdict holds. A handsome shirt that plays it safe in the one slot where safe is not required.

2026/27 is Liverpool's second season with adidas after the switch from Nike, and the design language has changed noticeably. The Trefoil on the away shirt, the 1989 graphic on the home, the archive-diving generally: this is a kit partnership leaning hard into heritage.
It is the right instinct for this club specifically. Liverpool have one of the deepest and most emotionally loaded kit archives in football, and a supplier willing to use it properly is worth more than one chasing novelty.
