East Carolina Uniform Schedule 2026: Every Jersey and When the Pirates Wear It

East Carolina has worn two completely different uniforms in two games: a white helmet with the old Pirates script at Alabama, then purple from head to toe for the home opener against App State. That is the ECU closet in a nutshell, deep enough that the helmet changes as often as the jersey. This is the full East Carolina 2026 uniform schedule: the purple home set, the white road set, the black alternate that comes out for Night of the Boneyard, and a week-by-week outlook for all twelve games, including two Thursday nights and a Friday night in Greenville. We update this page as each combination is confirmed.

The East Carolina 2026 Uniform Sets

Everything is adidas. The ECU closet leans on its history more than most Group of Five programs: the white script helmet ECU wore at Alabama calls back to an earlier era of Pirates football, and last November the program brought back the ECU letters on a purple shell with a post that said it better than we can.

The other thing to know is that ECU ties its uniforms to what the crowd is told to wear. The home opener was Paint it Purple, and the team matched it in all purple. The November 6 game against South Florida is Paint It Black and Night of the Boneyard, named for the student section, and the Pirates have gone black for Boneyard nights before.

The Full East Carolina 2026 Uniform Schedule, Week by Week

September 5 at Alabama. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: white helmet with the purple Pirates script and a gold facemask, white jersey, white pants, the full white road set in Tuscaloosa. Alabama wore crimson with white pants and won 48-10 on a brutally hot afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Our Alabama 2026 uniform schedule has the Tide side.

September 12 vs. App State. ★ Confirmed from the ESPNU broadcast: purple helmet with the pirate logo, purple jersey, purple pants, all purple for the Paint it Purple home opener at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. App State came in all white and won 27-24, its fourth straight win in the series. See our App State 2026 uniform schedule.

September 19 at Old Dominion. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: white helmet with the purple Jolly Roger, white jersey, purple pants, the road whites broken up with purple below the belt rather than the all-white look the Pirates used at Alabama. A 6 p.m. kickoff at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, with the Monarchs in their home colors. East Carolina won 20-17 on a late field goal after trailing 17-10 at the half.

September 26 vs. NC Central. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: purple helmet, purple jersey, gold pants for Family Weekend and Junior Pirate Club Day in Greenville. NC Central wore a maroon helmet with a gray jersey and gray pants. Emory Williams threw three touchdown passes, TJ Engleman Jr. added an 88-yard run, and East Carolina led 42-3 at the half on the way to a 42-9 win. The Pirates are 2-2.

October 3. Bye. ECU's only Saturday off before conference play.

October 10 vs. Rice. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: purple helmet with a gold facemask, purple jersey, white pants for Homecoming and Letterwinners Weekend in Greenville, on ESPN+. We had a throwback helmet on the watch list for Homecoming, and it did not appear. Rice wore a blue helmet, white jersey and blue pants. East Carolina won 28-12 to open American Conference play and moved to 3-2. Our Rice 2026 uniform schedule has the Owls side.

October 15 at UAB. White expected. Thursday night at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN or ESPN2, against a UAB team in green at home.

October 22 at Memphis. White expected. A second straight Thursday night, 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, with Memphis in blue. Our Memphis 2026 uniform schedule tracks the Tigers.

October 31 vs. Temple. Purple expected. Halloween in Greenville for Fan Appreciation, kickoff time to be announced, with Temple expected in white. See our Temple 2026 uniform schedule.

November 6 vs. South Florida. Purple or black. A Friday night at 7:30 on ESPN2 that ECU has tagged as Paint It Black, Night of the Boneyard and Military Appreciation Day. When the crowd is told to wear black for a Boneyard night, the team has usually followed, so this is the date we would bet on for the black set. It is not confirmed. USF is expected in white on our South Florida 2026 uniform schedule.

November 14 at Charlotte. White expected. The in-state road trip to Jerry Richardson Stadium, kickoff time to be announced, with Charlotte in green.

November 21 at Army. White expected. Noon on CBS Sports Network at Michie Stadium, with Army expected in black for its final home game. Our Army 2026 uniform schedule has the Black Knights side.

November 27 or 28 vs. Florida Atlantic. Purple expected. Senior Day to close the regular season, with the date listed as Friday or Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend and the kickoff still to be set. The American Conference championship game follows on December 5 at the highest seed's campus.

ECU found out it was opening in Tuscaloosa a year out, and announced it with a helmet graphic that put the pirate logo on a purple shell next to Alabama's crimson.

Why East Carolina Plays on Thursday and Friday Nights

The American sells weeknight games to ESPN, and ECU carries three of them in 2026: at UAB on Thursday, October 15, at Memphis on Thursday, October 22, and home against South Florida on Friday, November 6. Weeknight games are where Group of Five programs reach for alternates, because the audience is national and there is nothing else on. ECU's black uniform was built for exactly this kind of game, and the program's own history backs it up.

The Bottom Line

Two games in, East Carolina has used two helmets, two jerseys and two pant colors, and both looks were good ones. White is the call for the road games, and purple is the default in Greenville, with the pants and helmet genuinely in play each week. Homecoming against Rice on October 10 brought the purple helmet and purple jersey over white pants rather than a throwback, which leaves the Friday night Boneyard game against South Florida on November 6 as the date we would circle, the most likely spot for the black set. The grid above has every game with the expected set, and we add a star as each uniform is confirmed.
