Virginia won 34-8 and the orange on orange read as loud as the theme suggested. NC State countered with its red helmet, white jersey and red pants, and the smaller Tuffy decal on that red shell was the talking point of the night. September 5. Bye. Virginia opened in Week 0, so the first off week landed before most of the country had played a game.

September 11 vs. Norfolk State. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: navy helmet, navy jersey, navy pants, the full monochrome look, in a 59-3 win. This was the rarest thing in the wardrobe. Outside of throwbacks, Virginia had not gone navy on navy on navy in 24 games, the last time being against Maryland in September 2024. The date is worth noting too, because this was originally a Saturday game and moved up to Friday night.

September 19 vs. West Virginia, Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte. Announced: white helmet, orange jersey, white pants. Virginia posted the combination in the simplest possible language, three emoji in helmet, jersey, pants order, and left it there.

This is the Duke's Mayo Classic, a 7:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff on ACC Network, and Virginia is the designated home team on neutral ground, which is why the Cavaliers are in color and West Virginia is expected in white. The combination itself is the story. White over orange over white is the look the program wore through the 1980s, it had not appeared in Virginia's previous nine games, and the Cavaliers leaned into that when they rolled the photos out the next day.

October 23 vs. Duke. Home color expected, 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. This is the home date we are watching hardest. Friday night at Scott Stadium is exactly the slot Virginia used for its 1995 throwbacks last season against Florida State, navy jerseys with the old V sleeve detail, white pants and navy helmets, and it is also a rematch of the ACC title game.
