Virginia Tech Uniform Schedule 2026: Every Jersey and When the Hokies Wear It

Virginia Tech wears maroon at home and white on the road, but it announces a helmet, jersey, and pants combination before every game and changes it often. This page is the full Virginia Tech 2026 uniform schedule: the maroon home set, the white road set, the all-orange alternate, the Hokie Stone gray, and a week-by-week outlook for all twelve games in James Franklin's first season. Two games in, the Hokies have gone orange over orange under the white helmet against VMI and maroon over white under the white helmet against Old Dominion. We add each combination here once it is confirmed.

The Virginia Tech 2026 Uniform Sets

The current base sets are Nike's 2024 refresh, which pulled from the 1999 and 2000 jerseys: the shoulder stripes came off, the orange shoulder numbers came back, and the numerals picked up a Hokie Stone pattern that is easy to see up close and nearly invisible on television. What makes Virginia Tech harder to predict than most programs is the mixing. The athletic department's own records list 27 helmet, jersey, and pants combinations since 1987. The most-worn is the maroon helmet, maroon jersey, and white pants, at 122-47. The Hokies also pair many home games with a fan color theme, the Orange Effect, Maroon Effect, and White Effect, and the uniform often follows the theme. We have not seen a new 2026 alternate announced. In the ACC the home team wears color and the visitor wears white, so every road date below reads white, and every home date reads maroon until the weekly reveal says otherwise.

The Full Virginia Tech 2026 Uniform Schedule, Week by Week

September 5 vs. VMI. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast and Virginia Tech's own uniform records: white helmet, orange jersey, orange pants, the all-orange set for an Orange Effect night at Lane Stadium, with VMI in white jerseys and red pants. The Hokies won 73-3 in Franklin's debut. The pregame reveal showed the jersey and pants but held back the helmet, and it turned out to be the white shell. It was the same combination Virginia Tech wore in the 2025 opener against South Carolina in Atlanta, a 24-11 loss. With this win, the Hokies are 4-2 in white over orange over orange.

September 12 vs. Old Dominion. ★ Confirmed by Virginia Tech's reveal and its uniform records: white helmet, maroon jersey, white pants, for the Salute to Service game, which was also a White Effect game in the stands. Virginia Tech won 44-21, a year after Old Dominion won 45-26 in Blacksburg. The Hokies had worn this exact combination only once in the previous two seasons, a double-overtime win over California in 2025, and it now stands at 14-3, the best record of any combination the program wears regularly. We did not find a broadcast frame showing the Hokies from this game, so this one rests on the program's own records.

September 19 at Maryland. ★ Confirmed: white helmet with the VT and the maroon and orange striping, white jersey with maroon numerals outlined in orange, white pants, head to toe white. Virginia Tech won 35-26. The FS1 broadcast produced no ESPN frames, so this is confirmed from Virginia Tech's own gameday photography. A 7:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff at SECU Stadium, and the last non-conference game on the schedule. It was Hispanic Heritage Night in College Park, and Maryland wore the one-game "Los Terps" helmet for it, confirmed on Sunday from Maryland's own game photography: a red shell with "Los Terps" in white script and a white facemask, over the red home jersey and white pants. We track that side on the Maryland 2026 uniform schedule.

September 26 at Boston College. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: maroon helmet, white jersey, maroon pants, the first maroon helmet of the year after the white shell in the first three games. Boston College wore the gold helmet, maroon jersey and gold pants for Family Weekend. Virginia Tech won the ACC opener 21-14 and is 4-0. More: Boston College uniform schedule.

October 2 vs. Pittsburgh. Maroon expected, since it is a home game. A Friday night game on ESPN at 7 p.m. Eastern, the kind of prime-time slot where Lane Stadium tends to get an Effect theme. Pitt should be in white.

October 10 at California. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: white helmet with the maroon stripe, white jersey, maroon pants. White was expected, since Virginia Tech was the visitor, and the Hokies went back to the white shell after the maroon helmet at Boston College. It was Cal's Homecoming, a 3:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff on ACC Network, and Cal wore a gold helmet, blue jersey and gold pants. The Hokies beat Cal 42-34 in double overtime in 2025, and they led this one 14-10 at halftime, but Cal scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and won 25-20. Virginia Tech is 4-2. More: Cal uniform schedule.

October 17 vs. Georgia Tech. Maroon expected, since it is a home game. Georgia Tech won 35-20 in Atlanta in 2025, and the Yellow Jackets should be in white.

October 24 at Clemson. White expected, since Virginia Tech is the visitor. Clemson wears orange at home, so a Hokies set with orange pants would be the one thing to avoid in Death Valley.

October 31. Bye.

November 6 at SMU. White expected, since Virginia Tech is the visitor. A Friday night game in Dallas at 8 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. ESPN's schedule feed lists it under November 7 because it runs on UTC. It is played Friday, November 6.

November 14 vs. Stanford. Maroon expected, since it is a home game. The kickoff time has not been set.

November 21 at Miami. White expected, since Virginia Tech is the visitor. Miami wears orange at home at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami's black Miami Nights set debuted against Virginia Tech in 2017, so a night kickoff here is worth watching on both sides. We track the Hurricanes on the Miami Hurricanes 2026 uniform schedule.

November 28 vs. Virginia. Maroon expected, since it is a home game. The Commonwealth Clash is the home finale, and last year's home finale is where the Hokie Stone gray returned, so this is the date we are watching most closely for an alternate. Virginia won 27-7 in Charlottesville in 2025, with the Hokies in all white.

The Bottom Line

Virginia Tech is the rare program where the home and road colors tell you only half the story. The jersey color follows the ACC convention, maroon at home and white away, but the helmet and pants change from week to week, and the orange and Hokie Stone sets come out when the program wants a night to stand out. Two games in, Franklin's Hokies have used the white helmet both times and gone orange and then maroon. Six of the remaining ten games are on the road, so white will dominate the fall, and the four home dates are where the surprises will come. We update the grid with a star as each weekly reveal lands.
