James Madison Uniform Schedule 2026: Every Jersey and When the Dukes Wear It

James Madison has three jersey colors, two helmets, and a program that just went to the College Football Playoff. This is the full James Madison 2026 uniform schedule: the purple home set, the white road set, the all black look the Dukes have already pulled out once, and a week by week outlook for all twelve games in Billy Napier's first season in Harrisonburg. We update this page as each combination is confirmed.

The James Madison 2026 Uniform Sets

The Nike base set is purple and gold in the most literal sense: gold helmet, purple jersey, gold numerals. What makes the JMU wardrobe fun is the third color. Black is not in the school palette at all, and the Dukes wear it anyway, usually head to toe under that gold shell. They did it against Georgia Southern last September and the announcement came the way it always does, as three emoji and nothing else.

Read it left to right and it is helmet, jersey, pants. Gold, black, black. That is the JMU combination post in its entire form, and it is the single best reason to keep an eye on this account during the week of a home game. Sun Belt home teams wear color and visitors wear white, which locks every road date into the white jersey and turns every home date into a choice between purple and the blackout.

The Full James Madison 2026 Uniform Schedule, Week by Week

September 5 vs. Liberty. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: gold helmet, purple jersey, white pants, the cleanest version of the home look for the second Battle of the Blue Ridge and the first game of the Billy Napier era. JMU won 20-13 in front of a noon kickoff at Bridgeforth Stadium. Liberty was the visitor in a red helmet, white jersey and navy pants.

That field goal put the Dukes up 10-3 in the second quarter and the purple over white never left the screen after that. Napier's first postgame as a Duke tells you how the opener felt from the inside.

September 12 vs. Wagner. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: gold helmet, black jersey, black pants, the blackout, in an 87-3 win over Wagner that set program records and never got close. Two games into the season and JMU had already gone to the alternate, which is worth remembering when you look at the four home dates still ahead.

September 19 at San Diego State. ★ Confirmed from San Diego State's game photography: the white helmet, white jersey and white pants, head to toe white at Snapdragon Stadium, in a 26-13 win that took James Madison to 3-0. The helmet is the detail. The Dukes had used the gold shell in both of their first two games, and on the road they switched to the white one, purple JMU mark outlined in gold, purple and gold rear stripe, JAMES MADISON on the bumper. The jersey numerals are purple outlined in gold and the pants run the same purple and gold stripe. San Diego State wore its new Age of the Jaguar red over red. This was the long one, a 10 p.m. Eastern kickoff that lands at 7 p.m. on the West Coast, and JMU flew out early in the week. The CW produced no ESPN frames all night, so the confirmation had to wait a day for the home school's own photography.

One calendar note before you go looking for this game: ESPN files it under September 20 because its schedule feed runs on UTC and a 10 p.m. Eastern kickoff is already the next morning in London. The correct local date is Saturday, September 19.

September 26 at Old Dominion. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: gold helmet, white jersey, gold pants, with purple socks, for the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge in Norfolk, the first Sun Belt game of the year for both sides. The white jersey was expected; the gold helmet and gold pants replaced the all white set from San Diego State. Old Dominion wore a navy helmet, light blue jersey and navy pants. Camden Coleman threw four touchdown passes, Morgan Suarez kicked four field goals, and James Madison won 46-20 to move to 4-0.

October 3 vs. Marshall. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: gold helmet, purple jersey, gold pants for Family Weekend and the Sun Belt home opener. Marshall wore the white helmet with the green M, white jersey and white pants. The Dukes trailed for the first time all season, then scored 28 straight points in the second quarter. George Pettaway ran for a career-high 206 yards and two touchdowns, Camden Coleman threw three touchdown passes, and James Madison won 45-17 to move to 5-0. See our Marshall 2026 uniform schedule for the Herd.

October 10 at Georgia Southern. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: gold helmet, white jersey, purple pants, the white jersey as expected for the trip to Statesboro, this time with purple below it. Kickoff was 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU, on Georgia Southern's Family Weekend and Tackling for a Cure game. Georgia Southern wore the navy helmet, navy jersey and white pants; see our Georgia Southern 2026 uniform schedule. The Dukes trailed 10-6 at halftime and won 27-24 to move to 6-0.

October 17 vs. Georgia State. Purple expected, with an asterisk. This is Homecoming Weekend, which is historically the date programs save an alternate for, and JMU has already shown it will wear black in September. If the Dukes go to the closet again, this is the most likely home date.

October 22 at App State. White expected. A Thursday night at Kidd Brewer Stadium, 7 p.m., and JMU in white against a black home side is one of the better looking road games on the schedule.

October 29 vs. Troy. Purple expected. Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., a rematch of last season's Sun Belt Championship Game, which JMU hosted and won.

November 5 at Southern Miss. White expected. Another Thursday, 8 p.m. Eastern in Hattiesburg.

November 14 at UConn. White expected. Noon kickoff on CBS Sports Network at Pratt and Whitney Stadium, the only national over the air window on the schedule. More: UConn uniform schedule.

November 21. Bye.

November 28 vs. Coastal Carolina. Purple expected. The final home game of the regular season, and the last chance for a 2026 alternate reveal if one is coming. More: Coastal Carolina uniform schedule.

The Bottom Line

Six games into 2026, James Madison is 6-0 and has already used all three jerseys and both helmets, with the white shell coming out for the first road trip. Purple over white is the default at home, white is locked in for all six road games by Sun Belt rule, and the black set is the wild card that shows up when the program wants a night to feel bigger than the opponent. Homecoming against Georgia State is the date we are watching hardest. The grid above has every game, and we add the stars as each uniform is confirmed.
