Northwestern Uniform Schedule 2026: Every Jersey and When the Wildcats Wear It

Northwestern ran through ten different uniform combinations last season, so "purple at home, white on the road" only gets you halfway. This is the full Northwestern 2026 uniform schedule: the purple home set, the white road set, the black Gothics, the brand new Purple Gothics alternate that has a debut date already circled, and a week-by-week outlook for all twelve games. The season also splits across two stadiums, because the new Ryan Field opens in October. We update this page as each combination is confirmed.

The Northwestern 2026 Uniform Sets

Under Armour builds all of it, and the base sets are simple enough. The purple jersey and the white jersey carry the same slab NORTHWESTERN wordmark, the same three-stripe shoulder treatment and the same stylized N at the collar. What makes Northwestern interesting is the mixing. Last season the Wildcats logged ten different helmet, jersey and pants combinations, including an all-white look, an all-purple look, purple over black and two versions of the black Gothics. There is no such thing as a default Saturday here.

The Gothics are the program's signature costume. Northwestern first introduced a Gothic alternate in October 2014, built around the campus architecture and the Arnold Weber Arch, and brought the black version back most memorably for the Wrigley Field game in November 2024.

On June 30 the program teased a new one and then dropped it the same afternoon. The Purple Gothics take the same architectural language and move it onto the school's actual color.

The details are worth knowing before you see it on television. The purple is a deep royal shade with a silver flake in the shell, closer to the Baltimore Ravens than to the flat purple Northwestern usually wears. A metallic gold center stripe runs over the crown and an oversized gold N sits on each side, with the Weber Arch printed across the back of the helmet and WILDCATS on the front bumper in Gothic type. The jersey carries Gothic script on the shoulders, Northwestern on one side and University on the other, over gold and black stripes, and the numerals are textured metallic gold outlined in black. The pants repeat the stripe and add a gold arch and N on the left hip. It is a monochrome uniform, which usually reads better in person than on a broadcast, and it is going to divide people. That is clearly the point.

One more thing shapes this schedule, and it is not a jersey. Northwestern played its first two home games of 2026 at the temporary lakefront stadium, Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, and moves into the new Ryan Field on October 2. Everything from that date forward is in the new building.

The Full Northwestern 2026 Uniform Schedule, Week by Week

September 5 vs. South Dakota State. ★ Confirmed from game photos: purple helmet, purple jersey, white pants, the cleanest version of the base home set, under the lights at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Northwestern won 34-18 in Aidan Chiles's debut at quarterback and in Chip Kelly's first game as offensive coordinator. The opponent had a subplot of its own, since Wildcats receiver Griffin Wilde transferred in from South Dakota State.

September 12. Bye. An off week in Week 2 is unusual, and it gives Northwestern two full weeks before Colorado.

September 19 vs. Colorado. ★ Confirmed: purple helmet with the white N, purple jersey, purple pants. Purple head to toe, and the last night at the lakefront stadium got the plain set rather than anything special. The FOX broadcast fed ESPN nothing, so this one was confirmed on Sunday from Northwestern's own game photography. The Wildcats beat Deion Sanders' Colorado 41-7, with the Buffaloes in a full road whiteout. Our Colorado 2026 uniform schedule has the Buffaloes' side.

September 25 at Indiana. ★ Confirmed from Indiana's game photography: purple helmet with the white N, white jersey, purple pants. That settles the open question from the preview, since the Wildcats have paired the road white with a purple helmet, a white helmet, white pants and purple pants within the last year, and this time it was purple on both ends. Indiana wore crimson over white pants on a Friday night on FOX in Bloomington. Northwestern pushed the defending national champion to the end and lost 29-23, its first loss of the season, to fall to 2-1. More: Indiana uniform schedule.

October 2 vs. Penn State, 8 p.m. ET on FOX. ★ Confirmed by Northwestern: purple helmet, purple jersey, white pants. The new Ryan Field opens on a Friday night, exactly one hundred years to the day after the original stadium hosted its first game on October 2, 1926, and Northwestern chose the classic look for it rather than a special uniform. It is the same purple over white combination the Wildcats opened the season in against South Dakota State, the white N on the purple shell and white pants underneath. Penn State is expected in its all white road set, so the new building gets purple against white. The Penn State 2026 uniform schedule tracks the Nittany Lions.

October 10 vs. Ball State, 12:30 p.m. ET on BTN. ★ Confirmed from the broadcast: purple helmet, purple jersey, black pants. Homecoming, and the first Saturday afternoon game at the new Ryan Field, and Northwestern swapped the white pants from the Ryan Field opener for black ones under the purple top. Ball State wore a white helmet, white jersey and red pants. Northwestern won 45-14 after leading 31-14 at the half, with a pick-six from Robert Fitzgerald, and moved to 4-1.

October 17 at Michigan State, noon ET on Peacock. ★ Confirmed by Northwestern: black helmet with the purple N, white jersey, black pants. Every look this week is in our Week 7 uniform guide. Spartan Stadium, where Michigan State wears green at home. There is a storyline attached, because Chiles started at quarterback for Michigan State before transferring to Northwestern. See the Michigan State 2026 uniform schedule.

October 24 vs. Rutgers. Purple Gothics. This is the announced debut for the new alternate, at home against Rutgers, which makes it the one date on the whole board where we already know the jersey. Rutgers is in white. The Rutgers 2026 uniform schedule covers the Scarlet Knights.

October 31 at Oregon. White expected. Halloween at Autzen Stadium, against the one program in the country that changes uniforms more often than Northwestern does. The Oregon 2026 uniform schedule is worth reading alongside this one.

November 7 vs. Iowa. Purple expected. Iowa in white at Ryan Field. See the Iowa 2026 uniform schedule.

November 14 at Ohio State. White expected. Ohio Stadium, with the Buckeyes in scarlet. Our Ohio State 2026 uniform schedule has that side.

November 21 at Minnesota. White expected. Huntington Bank Stadium, and a maroon home team. The Minnesota Gophers 2026 uniform schedule tracks the Gophers.

November 28 vs. Illinois. Purple expected. The Land of Lincoln Trophy game closes the regular season at home. The Illinois 2026 uniform schedule has the Illini.

The Bottom Line

Northwestern is the rare program where the uniform is genuinely part of the week. Purple and white are the base, but the Wildcats mixed helmets, jerseys and pants ten different ways a year ago, and 2026 adds the Purple Gothics to a closet that already held two black Gothic sets. We know one date for certain: Rutgers on October 24 gets the new purple and gold look. The new Ryan Field opened on October 2 with the classic purple helmet, purple jersey and white pants, and Homecoming against Ball State on October 10 brought purple over black pants in a 45-14 win. The grid above has every game, and we star each cell as the combination is confirmed.
